Cherish these times. I lost my mom 3 weeks ago and she was my travel buddy. Every year we did a mother daughter trip and I am so thankful we did. Thos totally reminds me of our journeys together. We were actually supposed to do a train trip to New Orleans but she got too sick to travel and we didn't make it. I had no idea your mom was with you when I started watching this so that was crazy. Just so you know, when you left LA, that train is actually going to New Orleans, train 2, the Sunset Limited. Your car, and the coach in front of it (with the fugitive in it), were detached in San Antonio in the middle of the night and attached to the Texas Eagle, train 22. You probably slept through that. Your cars are called "through cars" in railroad-speak, and have the train number 422. The Texas Eagle runs San Antonio to Chicago daily. On the days the Sunset Limited runs, those two cars are attached in San Antonio and continue to Chicago. The other days the Texas Eagle runs without them. Also, you weren't actually in Mexico, but your Mom's phone got connected to a Mexican cell tower for a bit, hence the "welcome to Mexico" messages. My cousins live along the St. Lawrence River in upstate NY, and often get "welcome to Canada" messages. You were, however, very, very close to the border near El Paso. You could look out the window and see the border fence just outside the train. Your Mom is a hoot!
@Derek-Adams3 ай бұрын
The St. Lawrence! All of my mother’s family still lives in the Ogdensburg area and I’m there all the time. Years ago you had to call your cell carrier and tell them your location because the Canadian towers were picking up all the signals. Did many a battle with AT&T! Thank goodness it’s no longer the hassle it used to be.
@skontheroadАй бұрын
Flying to NY from California or Chicago, etc. you will generally get a message about having arrived in Canada bc of the arc and route they fly over. Same with Europe home as they fly over Nova Scotia, so they pick up the signal from the tower (think of the tower like a big umbrella.)

Acupuncture was developed 3,000 years ago and its effects are far reaching. Modern medicine is 100 years old. Prior to the 1900's, they used leeches, and other blood letting techniques to rid a body of most illnesses. The worst thing about your comment is that some uninformed people agreed. Trip with Mother. The best thing you can do, trust me. I took a train trip with my mother, "79 at the time" on Amtrak 2 years ago. It was her last trip and it was so fun. Train was 10 hours late, we were both so tired we couldn't see straight, but we laughed ourselves silly and had the BEST TIME EVER. Treasure the time spent with your mother, Kara. There is nothing more special

@TrainsForDayz3 ай бұрын
Aside from that little mishap you had there, I’m glad you and your mom had a great experience with Amtrak on the Sunset Limited/Texas Eagle long-distance train Kara. I’ve always been a fan of Amtrak’s long distance services just like the Coast Starlight from your other video and no matter which one you take, they always provide excellent service and amenities for long-distance travel. Whether it’s serving various snacks and meals for passengers in the dining and cafe cars or the many amazing views one can see or experience from the Sightseer Lounge car which has always been my favorite part of the journey. Also a couple interesting *fun facts*; your rooms were at the very end of the train because Amtrak’s Sunset Limited/Texas Eagle uses the standard long-distance Amtrak consist with an extra sleeping car on the end of the train unlike the others that is then set out along with the last coach car in San Antonio for the Texas Eagle. It’s always nice to see and hear Amtrak P42DC locomotive 5 leading your train. This is especially true since many of Amtrak’s GE Genesis series of locomotives are still running on various trains throughout the network even with many of them being over 20+ years old with an on-going replacement process of the newer Siemens ALC-42 Charger locomotives on other Amtrak long-distance trains including my favorite one, the Coast Starlight!!! Absolutely incredible to see!!!! Also that was a nice shot of Amtrak California Non-Powered Control Unit 90225 at 5:57 which along with another Non-Powered Control Unit or NPCU for short 90215 and single-level passenger cars was actually brought down from Amtrak California’s San Joaquin intercity route in Northern California to Southern California for use on Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner intercity route from Los Angeles to San Diego and San Luis Obispo. This was mainly due to a number of issues from several Siemens SC-44 Charger locos and Cab Cars having been withdrawn from regular service. Anyways, I'm a huge train fan so I know quite a lot about everything that's railroad and train-related; locomotives, rolling stock, horns, you name it. I always love it when people praise Amtrak for the variety of things they provide on any of their trains since it’s not really something all that discussed much in the USA. Another fantastic video, I once again really enjoyed it!!! I was also at L.A. Union Station awhile back for a special Railroad Safety Event too!!! :)

Well, I’ve only seen a couple of y’all’s videos make that three or four, I’ve got to say you were such a breath of fresh air. I think I smiled through the whole thing. Thank you.

This was a delightful video with your mom! Continued prayers for you, Kara, regarding your epilepsy. Thank you for your willingness to be vulnerable - that's not easy to do.

I always tell people I look like my mom and dad but every pet of my personality comes from my stepmom. And it’s so funny I tell her all the time that Kara reminds me of a younger version of my step mom, but now I get to the OG version in Kara’s mom!

Thanks for sharing this experience with your Mom with us! You're so lucky that you have this relationship with her. And kudos to you for zeroing in on your epilepsy symptoms!
