Nice porting job. I have 3 sets of 3800 heads. One pair is NA and the other two are SC. Going to initially practice on the NA heads, then work on my SC heads for my 2000 Buick Regal GS. Going to eventually turbo charge the SC block.

We use carbide cutters usually 1/2 oval 4 inch shank. Buy them from a company that specializes in carbide burrs. Most tool trucks sell China carbide that wears quickly. Adam, I believe the castings are the same.

for 35 years ported only steel heads and was very nervous about doing my first set of aluminum heads... 5 sets in and Ill never port another iron head as long as I live ... what used to take me weeks now takes me days and that taking my time. I can do port matching 2-3 inches in on a set of heads in less then 3 hours (nothing fancy but only takes 3 hours) but then again I have commercial grade carbide burrs not the cheap ones. these run around 65-85 each witch seems like a lot but they are still sharp after 30 years and can effortlessly cut a cylinder head in half in no time so not exactly for beginners as one slip and the head is toast

How wide is the tooth spacing on those burrs? I have a tapered one that cuts super fast like an endmill (only 5 or 6 flutes, 1/4” shank) but will catch and jump hard at any instant if im not holding it really steady

L57 and L36 are identical castings but the L67 has the injector ports on the head itself instead of on the intake. Might be something to consider, if the casting interferes with the spray pattern at all

He had to shave down or at least resurface it after coloring outside the lines with the cutter. I was going to do this on a 318 I rebuilt but everybody said take it to a pro. I did and it was beautiful. However, it wasn't a noticeable power increase. Even bored out some there was just a little bit of noticeable power. The engine needed rebuilt so porting and polishing was that much extra to do and the rebuilt engine ran for over 100,000 miles. But I wouldn't just take apart an engine for porting and polishing.

these intake ports will flow to .700 lift+ . with the stock openings. I wouldn't be afraid of valve lifts of .650 for the street. most builders won't go there maybe because the can't stabilize the port to get the flow? it's nothing for a bb chevy to have a big hydraulic roller cam with much heavier valve train

Can someone tell me what the tool call with the sandpaper, not the die grinder, but the bit he was using at 2:45 , I like the fact that you able to unscrew the sandpaper and I don’t know what it’s called. Someone lmk

It’s a mandrel specifically a “cartridge roll mandrel” most are 1/8” by 1” but can very and the sandpaper rolls come in straight and tapered, the sandpaper quality you get what you pay for.

MicTheGreaseMonkey. Greetings, dont believe the openings need to get any bigger than what the are stock. you dont want to lower the floors, cant go much higher on the roof. youll have to modify the intake gasket. no real gain from what i found
