#389 - Sunny Sweeney Getting Nominated for ACM Three Months After Getting Dropped From Label + From Wanting to Quit Music to Being Featured in Country Music Hall Of Fame + Writing A Letter To Emmylou Harris To Get Her to Say Yes to A Song
Sunny Sweeney stopped by Bobby's house to talk about her journey as a singer songwriter coming from Texas and trying to make it in Nashville. She talks about getting discovered on Myspace and signing her first record deal, to only be dropped from it, to three months later being nominated for an ACM Award. Sunny also discusses how she thought about quitting music until she kept receiving signs to keep going, like her most recent one of being featured in the Country Music Hall Of Fame. She also talks about the ups and downs of her personal life and the advice she'd give to people who want to pursue a music career. Sunny recently released a cover of Emmylou Harris song "Red Dirt Girl," and she talks about the seven-year process of recording that song and writing a letter to Emmylou asking if she'd sing harmonies on it!

I have been following Sunny ever since "Next Big Nothing" was put out there.... I have seen her only 2 times perform and it's the best time you can have.... you can see she loves what she does and she loves to interact with her fans - great interview with great insight to what she's been through

I'm so glad she never quit. I think it was 2013 when I first heard Sunny. The first song I heard was Bad Girl Phase. I hadn't been to a concert since Genesis in the late 80s. Saw Sunny about a month ago for the first time opening for Doug Kershaw in Witterberg-Birnamwood, WI. I took my mother, who was so excited to see Kershaw, probably 30-something years after she first did. It was so much fun.

Great interview on both sides...true! Funny about being a cockroach! 😅 Great to hear more of the Sunny work and industry struggles....such a down to earth person. I recently was listening to some of Scott Stapp, Bruce Dickinson and Godsmack releases.....not impressed, just not liking it. So ive been searching for bands in town....but somehow came across Sunny and of course her looks make for an easy inquiry motivation. I listened to 1 song and that lead me to more.... I couldnt get tix online because of some archaic system. I just showed up the night of the show. Amazingly her tix werent sold out....I was glad for that! But I couldnt imagine why. In a world where everything is opposite, this made sense I guess. Got to meet her....wow! She is genuine just like in this interview. Shes the real article!
