Bli med opp på Hardangervidda for å se på villrein via to viltkameraer, plassert strategisk ved en viltovergang dyra ofte bruker.
Det er to planlagtete episoder
Please join me up on the Hardangervidda plateau Norway to watch reindeer trough two Trail Cam's during a two months periond summer 2020
There will be two episodes
The reindeer on the plateau have a lot of challenges nowadays, such as:
- They are under pressure up there as they are contantly harassed by biting bugs/bot flys during summertime. The bugs/bot flys causes alot of stress among the reindeer.
- Their feeding grounds during summer time are almost gone because of heavy grazing pressure.
- Foot rot
- CWD (Chronic Wasting Disease) new this year on the plateau
I am not optimistic regarding the future of the reindeer on the plateau, to put it that way.

Gunnar D...

Hi Willie Very kind of you. One day I will show up. I have never tasted Sika venison, so to drop a Sika would be very exciting. The Corona situation needs to calm down first. Then I will aim for Eire :-)

Brian T Tnx for dropping by and for your comment. Highly appreciated. The reindeer on the plateau are struggeling now as it was an outbreak of foot rot in 2019. 700 reindeer died during the outbreak. In 2020 CWD was discovered on a harvested reindeer bull, more or less in the same area where I have my trail cams. Something has to be done.

@@Kjell_H . Foot rot, that's a pity - not something that used to be a significant problem with reindeer . Perhaps a result of climate getting warmer and wetter ?.

Brian T Climate change is a part of the problem regarding foot rot, but the main reason is that the rein deer herds (a total of 6500 heads give or take, as we speak) not uses more than 30 - 40% of the total area on the plateau and mainly south of Kvenna river, which divides the plateau more or less in two halves. The herds is heavly consentrated in a relatively small area. As a result they often walk in each others feces and is the main reason they get foot rot simply explained. Why are the herds so consentrated? Well it's because us humans and human activety. Reindeer have more or less no toleranse when it comes to human interferense. It's a lot of tourists and hikers on the plateau during summertime, but south of Kvenna river it's way more calmer because of the "infrastructue" almost no paths and huts. It's a heavy debate going on regarding the issue and what to be done. As you know Norway has an International commitment to take care of the last remains of free rangeing reindeer in europe. My meaning is we have not suceeded at all, but that's me.
