I don't even care about Iridium but the the tips on using N100 and an FFT channelizer are very relevant to other other SDR project ideas I've had. I'm so glad I came across this.

I know they want to paint it as something naughty, but previous positions appearing out in the ocean is _VERY_ likely to just be some person's phone on their boat. US DoD are NOT the only people on the planet using the system. (I know about a lot of telemetry devices scattered around the globe using Iridium. Some device trackers use Iridium - never bet on being in range of some cellular network.)

but would those terminals be asking for the DoD service center? or did I misunderstand what they said around 40:00 about the different service centers devices could ask for?

@@voxelsofsorrow Anything on a DoD contract should be talking to the DoD center, but that could be anyone. Loads of people walk around with those stupid expensive phones. Could be a contractor at a conference, or General on vacation. That doesn't mean much without know who's phone it is. But it does make for an interesting slide.

32:55 For non-German speakers. The "Auswärtiges Amt" is the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, responsible for the country's foreign affairs. Within this office, "Referat 040 Krisenreaktionszentrum" refers to the Crisis Response Center. This department is responsible for managing and coordinating Germany's response to international crises, including emergencies affecting German citizens abroad, natural disasters, or conflicts. They work on providing assistance, information, and support during such situations. The text message translation reads "Hey XXXX, I need a good doctor in TLV who also examines gunshot wounds. Can you send me a number / GEOLoc ASAP? Thanks, YYY." I know, if you have to explain the joke, it isn't funny, but I don't translating the joke counts against that rule.

32:58 I had to translate the message to understand but how did encryption not occur to this agency?

My automatic translation is: "I needed a good doctor in TLV who also looks at gunshot wounds. Can you send me a number / GEOLoc ASAP. Thanks"

maybe a consular attaché rather than a spook? though diplomatic cables have been encrypted for decades so... no clue. unless the sat phone wasn't their kit and they were borrowing it from someone else.

I wonder what are those "previous locations" from Delhi. Iridium phones , pagers etc are completely banned in India. You will even be stopped at the airport and your Iridium device will be confiscated.

Probably foreign diplomats, who are of course exempt from being searched at the airports. Also explains why the signals only appear in New Delhi.

What is it?
@sciencoking3 күн бұрын
@@C4Ti0 It's a protocol for copying files over a serial terminal. Widely adopted and effectively a standard in the early 90s. It's so simple you can run it on an arduino
@Sevetamryn3 күн бұрын
@ and because it is via serial, it runs via modem, long range connection too.
