Am I procrastinating by watching this instead of working through my 40th rewrite? ;)

Yes. But this interview has sections on rewriting and lots of other great teachings so it could help you.

Am I right in thinking that unless the physiology of the character is central to the story, don't get too attached to your vision once it's written...because the casting director might take their appearance in a whole other direction? Or, if you drop a few vital (to you, the screenwriter) details into the script, will they likely be honoured? I'm just thinking about screen adaptations of books where characters are described thoroughly and yet sometimes it gets totally ignored for the movie version. 😆

^Sorry, a shallow point to raise for such a great interview with so many insights. It just caught my interest early on, how Paul said to think deeply about the physical aspect of character because it impacts on their worldview and how they'll interact with others - it's cool and I agree, it's something important for US to know and stay aware of. while writing.

I'm pretty sure it's great, but the title of 39 steps just rubs me the wrong way with that lingo

How many steps would you prefer?

Would '39 insights' suit you better or is it the number that bugs you, or...?
