Hi Gord - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. A super comparison video. I referred to the small pusher plate in a previous video. Andrew's reasoning behind his explanation for its small size escapes me as you could apply that logic to any splitter. I remain apprehensive of its operation when the 4 way is used as a number of bigger pieces were pushed sideways partially split and were drop hazards. A comoromise might be to have the plate wider but not taller. Every video of the Ultra that I have viewed showed the larger pieces behaving as with you. However, the Ultra is likely to tick every box on your list of priorities so you will be a Happy Chappie!
@scottmoorhouse56643 жыл бұрын
Got an idea Gord. You take the Ultra and talk Guy into getting the 5-11. Nice head of hair, mine is all gone. CHEERS my friend and stay safe.

How's she goin''? That splitter sure is fast!!! I think that would be a big draw for a lot of people. Especially for a one way splitter, waiting for the ram to retract just seems like such a waste of time!!! Thanks for the review and thanks to Andrew for setting you with this model!!! Take care!!!

GP, that 5-11 combined with conveyor is one good looking and fine working combination. The Ultra wood splitter too is a good looking machine and the removable tongue is ideal. I really like those nice large wheels., and the heavy duty platform. Vanguard engine is a powerful and dependable engine. I had a 10000W generator with Vanguard motor and was strong, easy to start, easy to work on, and not difficult to find OEM maintenance parts. Boy the 5-11 and Ultra fired up with ease. Thanks GP for a quality video. I enjoyed a full-watch., my friend. I think the Ultra should meet your personal needs for the amount of wood you need during a season. Wishing you, Guy, and friends a fine week. 👍🏽🙂

Great video Gord. I have read many reviews about the Ultra, great machine, but I have to agree that the pusher plate is too small. That is the reason the pieces rotate out to the sides or upward because there is no area of pusher plate constraining the angular pivot at there base.

Good morning GP. I don’t know... think about your old age days. You’re going to miss those NICE hydraulic features and the superior table. The ultra seems to spit larger rounds off the side (= yet more bending). Being able to automatically adjust the head height is also a feature I would love. Just my opinion, but the Ultra seems better suited to a younger back 😎. Thank you for the comparison though. Cheers!

Get the bigger one Gordon , it will split anything you throw at it . That log lift and hydraulic adjustable blade is a must , yu know we are not getting any younger . Always remember there is no replacement for displacement when talking wood splitters . I also like that Canadian accent ..., eh .
@TheDriftlessHomestead3 жыл бұрын
I think those are the best splitters on the market. It's nice to see them work side by side. I ordered a 12-22 because I want to make square wood, fast.
@markhowes1263 жыл бұрын
I have a 12-22 don't use the log lift very often because I bring rounds to the splitter. Don't take the splitter to the rounds. If I get a big one I just noodle it with the chainsaw. I love the adjustable 4 way wedge. Very seldom use the 6 way you need just the right sized blocks for it to work right, its not handy for results. But the ultra is half the price of 12-22, maybe I should've....?

Hello Gord! Truly a nice machine, fast, light but robust. The only thing I doubt is the four-blades wedge. It doesn’t seem suited to do his job well. I see the logs going up and turning outwards, which can get disturbing in the long run. Finally, I will follow the next episodes to see its use. Thanks for sharing! Yves, Boisbriand, Quebec.

The Ultra looks like a great splitter but the last few trees I've had to split there are at least 10 rounds I can't get off the ground. For me I think I need to save up for the 5-11. I just looked on the website and I think they've gone up in the last few months.

Thanks Roger! I am going to use the 4 way for a while and then perhaps try out the single. Have a good one!
@terryluebbe25603 жыл бұрын
All these Easrmades have a nice table height. I wouldn't want a 4-way wedge without hydraulic height adjustment. With the speed, you may be better off with a single wedge, unless you want to make kindling at the same time. I personally prefer the 5-11. Cheers
@mitchz.62343 жыл бұрын
Hey Gord...here's my 3 cents.....that Ultra is fast, but over time because of that high table that's a lot of lifting. It will take a toll on your backs.....so my choice for you 3 guys would be Andy's Eastonmade Axis Vertical model with 8' conveyer....That is one sweet splitter. Have you tried that one?
@marclauzon18823 жыл бұрын
Ultra quick (new advertising) I’m on the Easton build list for a 5-11 . The cradle design and the lift are what I think important to me. Anyway that was fun watching Gerry , Andrew and your crew together.

I see a whole lot of wood falling off the splitter before the wedge (Like at 12:00). Let’s hope they improve that table design or offer an extended width table option. I added an extension to mine (different brand) and it made a world of difference.

Congrats on the new splitter. Split-Fire makes a great unit. It will last you forever I think. I think alot of manufacturers are dealing with supply shortage and lots of orders since last year. The speed on this is amazing but I can't help to notice the angled wings on the wedge seem like a bad idea, we see wood is often shooting out the side because of the angle. I'd take this splitter with a regular 4-way straight wedge.

@johnmedlin58943 жыл бұрын
I like that Ultra, that is a really nice splitter.
@bwillan3 жыл бұрын
That Ultra splitter is really quick. With the manual height adjustment on the 4 way wedge, it might require sorting the firewood rounds by size to minimize the amount of resplitting. GP, it will be interesting to see your opinion on it after using it for a while.
@gerarddemaiter69053 жыл бұрын
Ultra is great for the price point but a 5-11 with the optional auto cycle would be a much better splitter. Splitter would complete the stroke while you get the next piece and is a huge productivity increase. Watching pieces get pushed aside on the ultra gets old fast
@newhampshire-bob16043 жыл бұрын
I like the speed but would like a log lift, hydraulic adjustment for the wedge and maybe the tray about 12" longer. Then maybe we have something to talk about! Because I am not getting any younger!

They are both nice machines! I am older and work alone most of the time, so the ram speed of the Ultra would probably wear me out keeping up with it. A helper feeding me rounds would make a big difference. The lift and hydraulic wedge on the 511 would make it my preference.

Dumping the split wood onto the ground instead of into a wagon or loader isn’t very efficient. My fire wood includes pieces up to 24-36” diameter, the tilt up vertical splitter makes this a lot easier than lifting the wood onto a horizontal splitter. I see a lot of wasted motion in these videos, as much as I like them otherwise.
@GPOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Good morning Jan. Yes, I appreciate your comments. For sure, it was not an efficient split - we don't split this way normally but was a must for the purpose of the video. I don't like to handle wood more than I have to. Thanks for the note - we don't get alot of big stuff here but for sure , if you are splitting big diameter stuff like you have, a hydraulic lift is a must have, I think.
