We start the video with brief highlights of the ride up from GCT, followed by a little Croton-Harmon Railfanning. This was a fantastic day visiting this huge shop on the Metro North system. We check out this spotless facility and observe the many locomotives, MU cars, inspection and railway maintenance equipment. We also visit some of the hands-on exhibits and talk to a few employees including Metro North’s Chief Mechanical Officer. In addition, you will see many of these locomotives and MU cars in action on the railroad at earlier times including all 5 of the newest Heritage P32’s. I salute Metro North for the diligent effort in making this Open House a resounding success.

I've always wanted to visit Metro North's Croton Harmon shop. Sad that I never got the chance. So many reasons why Metro North is the best MTA operated railroad. Having an open house to the public is one of those reasons. Another great video, Tim.

Really interesting video. Aside from the show, it was great to see all of the different equipment in use. I used to live where I could see the New Haven line trains pass by and always wanted to drive them. Then, I found out that a neighbor did just that and I told him that when he retired, I wanted his job.

Wonderfully crafted & documented video presentation. A perfect way for any railfan to enjoy viewing the equipment & staff of a working commuter railroad. Great use of your archived action shots to compliment the items showned at the open house. Well done, sir! Thank you for sharing with your viewers!

17:47 Very cool. I've always been intrigued railroad tracks and switches and the work done by maintenance of way. 20:53/ 21:13/ 23:52 Just gorgeous! Love them M3A! Fantastic piece of American railroading equipment. Would love for Athearn and/or Scale Trains to make a proper HO scale of an M3 in it's original blue stripe or Metro North stripe color. 24:03 love that M3 truck and those brand new wheels. 24:10 That is my favorite of the Metro North heritage paint schemes 33:06 now that is cool. I'm sure that attracks a lot of attention from kids. 34:15/ 34:46/ 35:48 Love that they inform the public on how the railroad operates and the steps taken to ensure safety. 39:24 Loving that shot of the M3 41:32 I will say, that laser train paint job is fascinating. Excellent work, Tim. You are by far my favorite railran channel!

Two things: Yes to painting the MU fronts grey and range, but add Dashing Dan. Second LIRR should get the Obs cars back during the summer for the "cannonball". Very nice video.

...I was in New York this past weekend and took a train to Poughkeepsie yesterday (when this video was recorded)... I had no idea this was a thing. We did see a bunch of railfans at Croton Harmon and my dad was curious as to why. Well, now we know heh. Train trip was a little crazy. We ended up getting switched out to a different train twice before leaving grand central and having a medical emergency at Ossining leading to our train sitting there for 15 minutes. In the end we learned 230 was leading us so we got something out of that (As far as I know, that's the only heritage unit with a Penn Central badge on it. Correct me if I'm wrong on that). I may have missed this one but there's one happening in Ivy City with Amtrak that's happening in November that I will be attending.

i like NJ Transit's idea of "if it ain't broke don't fix it." 4208 needing a new engine, they could've just retired it, but they decided to put in a new one instead, which will absolutely prolong the life of that locomotive for AT LEAST another 15 years.!!!

Tim, thanks, this was great. Really informative. Why do most MNCR P32’s smoke so badly and sound worse than GEVO’s? Except for the 211, of course, and rightfullly so, given its “heritage.” And thanks for the action videos at the end … a super bonus!!!!!!!!
