When SEPTA took over, the track speed on this entire line was 25 MPH. Now it's mostly 50.

Nice to see my home line get a bit of love. Never seen it from the "foamer" window before. 😜Used to ride it weekly down to Wilmington when they still ran R2s end-to-end to get to work. One place I know you missed mentioning was the former Fulmor station, and was more or less a flag stop IIRC. It was located right between the rail bridge and the Warminster Road crossing. That one shut down in the '90s.

I'm pretty sure that all of the catenary portals from Wayne Junction South to the tunnel were replaced as part of the RailWorks projects back in the early 1990s.

@@3985uprr Oh, yeah. No denying that. In typical SEPTA fashion, they look pretty much identical to what was there before. It KIND OF makes sense when you think about it. SEPTA has the blueprints on file, and designing new ones would cost money. Why not go with what works?

On Nov 8, we met the Reading commerative car on a Chestnut Hill West (PRR) train at N. Phila, going outbound. That accounts for all three of them. Not bad for 50 year old cars.

Septa has already launched an Expression of Interest for the Silverliner 6 with all the performance details. It is still very early in development though, and nobody knows what the Silverliner 6 will look like or who will even build them. However, it's obviously not going to be Hyundai Rotem after the disaster with the Silverliner 5.

@@3985uprrI think that the silverliner 6 is going to be the Kawasaki M8. Septa has considered it as a viable option. The M8 has proven itself to be very reliable on Metro North's New Haven line. Septas will be modified slightly like having doors that can accommodate low level platforms as septa has a mixture of both high and low level platforms.

Was great to hear you used to ride the Budd cars up to Reading from North Broad back in the day. I used to ride that route back in the '70s as a kid. At 16th Street, was that where the tracks divided to head up to Norristown and Reading? If they will ever restart service, I wonder if that's where the train will come in to go to Philly.

An interesting head-end ride! Thanks! Maybe it's ust this line but it strikes me NJ Transit moves a lot more vigorously than SEPTA does. This train was slow!

The Silverliner Vs have always been the nicest looking cars on SEPTA, but they’re incredibly unreliable. If 50-year old cars are outperforming them in reliability, something about them is terribly wrong. Idk if Hyundai Rotem built them cheaply, if SEPTA poorly maintains them, etc., but SEPTA needs to either give them a severe rebuild or just replace them with whatever they’ll use to replace the IVs. They can’t keep the IVs in service forever.

I must say the SV4’s impress me with what they can do after 50 years. Yes, the SV5’s have issues but to me they are very special. I can understand the criticism of them though.

@@3985uprr Septa has already begun looking for a replacement for the 4's. They released an EOI for the Silverliner 6 a few days ago. It is still very early in the process so there isn't a lot we don't know. We don't even know what they'll look like or who will even build them. We all know Hyundai Rotem isn't going to build them because of the disastrous adventure it took to build the Silverliner 5's with the design delays, contract disputes, and the final assembly plant needing to be built in South Philly which delayed their delivery from 2005 to 2010.
