Sails and rails to New Haven. Welcoming back pure Vermonter’s and railfanning other trains. 7/23/21

Got to see north and southbound Vermonter’s change engines at New Haven on one of their first runs after reinstatement on July 19. Lots of Amtrak, CTRail, SLE, and MN seen also. Also got to see one of MN’s spiffy GP35R’s. Can’t forget the wonderful ferry boat ride either !!!!!!

Excellent video from a big time Rail Fan. I'm also a former New Yorker born and raised. I lived on the south shore of Long Island in the Brookhaven Township and when wanted to visit our relatives up in New England we took the Port Jefferson Ferry. You brought back great memories. Great video. I'm a big fan of the Vermonter as it goes through my town of Northampton, MA. There have been some delays since the return of service and I can see why. But today they did much better with the engine switch and it arrived here two minutes early.

The State Street station is a short walk from New Haven's famed Wooster Square, home of many great pizza places such as Pepe's, Sally's and Modern Apizza.

Shore Line East is actually part of CT Rail. CT Rail is made up of the Shore Line East and Hartford Line, and both lines are part of CT Rail

That was a fun outing. Nice variety of trains. What I wonder is how the state of Connecticut has enough business to support Amtrak and CTrail. Anyone have the answer? Those P40s are in desperate need of a paint job. Glad to hear they’ll receive the CTrail “Coke Zero” livery.

They really need to electrify SLE/CTRail already, possibly in conjunction with MN. Relying on old Geeps and near-death P40s isn't going to get riders on, especially when its supposed to be an important connector from NY to Hartford, which has been in limbo for the past 30 years.

Why don't they use electro-diesel hybrid locomotives for the entire run from DC to Vermont? Wouldn't that eliminate the need for switching locomotives?

I think mbta commuter rail needs to run to new haven along side of Connecticut rail and metro north due to how Amtrak is expensive people who are in Connecticut can ride our commuter rail into Boston instead Amtrak.
