I’m running a 2650 Black Jacket with Mamba X in my trx4. Inside it’s loud outside it’s not bad. And power to spare. I crawled it and did doughnuts and wheelies. Worth every penny and Tom’s customer service is great.

Outrunner have roughly four times the torque of other motors of the same size. Adding a sensor makes an outrunner that much better. I had a very early sensored Revolver(on 4s)in my Trailfinder, it'd crawl extremely slow and still hit 20mph. I had to gear it way down an run it on 3s. Didn't want to break the rig. That motor still runs extremely well and powerful. It's been in King Midas 6x6 for about 6-7 years now.

Sweet! That's a lot of power out of such a small outrunner... Amazon has some $25 Flash Hobby airplane outrunners that actually work pretty well on a 10BL120 sensored ESC (no more noisy than that). They're rated at 3-4S but I've been running 2S and they work fine. I super glued the magnets to make sure they don't come loose. Only downside is the 5mm shaft. 1100KV with a 13-15mm pinion is pretty good. Their website has specs

Those Fusion motors are quietly the best thing in crawling. Powerful, smooth, SILENT and you can tune the FOC output. Only problem with them is length relative to similarly powered motors in some applications. I'd take these all day over my HH Revolvers if I am being honest.

For anyone who thinks the noise won't bother you, and before you go drop hundreds of dollars on these motors and esc's, consider those you crawl with and your neighbours. I have 3 of these outrunner motors, and I can only use them under special circumstances due to the noise. It is NOT something that everyone (or even most people...) will be OK with. Now it is possible that my setup (I have a snubnose revolver on a CC Mamba X and two 540 revolvers on CC SW4's) is louder than most, or that my settings contribute to the noise - but neither system is relaxing to run. My wife says they sounds like amplified dental drills...
@scottyh72
@scottyh72 Жыл бұрын
It's not so much the motor. The esc's pwm frequency is too low. That's the whine you hear. To get rid of it, you must run a faster processor in the esc. Then write new code for that processor. None of my DIY brushless systems make any noise. But are 32 bit esc's that I can adjust the pwm.

I'm super confused. Part of the reason to use an outrunner motor for crawling is how smoothly and slowly we can get it to startup. I bought into the hype and $400 later I have 3 of these motors in a scale and comp crawlers. They perform as advertised - they are just as smooth and slow as my sensored HW and CC systems. So - what is the point of the sensor??
@scottyh72
@scottyh72 Жыл бұрын
The sensor tells the esc exactly how fast the motor is turning, and gives feedback to get the motor started. It prevents cogging on start up, and provides a smoother throttle response, especially at very low motor shaft speeds.
@DESOUSAB
@DESOUSAB Жыл бұрын
@@scottyh72 Sure, that much I understand. But what I am asking is, if the unsensored motor is already smooth and slow at startup, what point is the added complication and cost of adding a sensor to that system? Perhaps I am being dense here...
@tomasher1911
@tomasher1911 Жыл бұрын
@@DESOUSABthe unsensored motors are not this smooth, they in fact cogg unless you run a silent esc, and even they they do not have as good as control. If you have been running unsensored motors for a while then you probably don't even notice the cogging. Not until you ran a sensored version that is.
@DESOUSAB
@DESOUSAB Жыл бұрын
@@tomasher1911 All of my systems are sensored, except the Revolvers. I'm guessing gearing might be an important consideration - perhaps with taller gearing I would see more cogging in my unsensored outrunners.
@tomasher1911
@tomasher1911 Жыл бұрын
@@DESOUSAB Yes gearing is definitely a factor.

It’s hilarious to me that people whine and bitch about EV’s not making noise as opposed to the rc people complaining that the motors make too much noise lmfao. I prefer the noise. The louder the better. An out runner is a great way to keep dogs away hahaha
