The "Tyvek" question.....🤨🤨🤨 I was so sure that it didn't matter a shit any which way it was fixed.......but I asked Google ( along with that stupid quizzical look and head tilt ) just to make sure........and tried to 'follow up' with some 'research' on the reason Lou gave with no such luck. Now, watching this, I almost peed my pants. This channel is entertainment at its best🤣🤣🤣🥰....and Makita is losing out big time here😉 edit - I just emailed them😍😍😍

If Roland likes grass seed so much, you might catch him with a tall bucket: if you fix a plastic sheet over the top with a diagonal cut in the centre, the grass seed will be light enough to stay in place over the cut but Roland will fall through as he is tucking in.. my dad used to catch mice that way and Roland is a good bit chunkier

Ingenious idea👍

@@mafish7962 I woke up thinking, given his size Roland seems to be a very smart fellow so if I tried to outsmart him this way, I would use the garbage bin he's already familiar with and not cut the plastic for a few days - let him walk over the top and snack away in the middle until he's convinced the strange surface is safe. Then one day, it isn't..

The Roland situation is terrifying and I'm with Em all the way. Definitely worth putting a notice on local community Notice Board to see if anyone has a ferret. Years ago my brother who was a woodwork teacher in a very large school in Dublin, had a problem with rats in the woodwork room. One of his students said "Hey sir, can I bring in my pet ferret and he'll sort it". Skeptical but interested he asked the Principal for permission and she agreed. On the day in question (after school) the kid brought the ferret to school in a cloth bag. After releasing him he ran around the room ferreting in corners and in less than a minute returned and dropped a dead R at their feet. He took off again for another scope and returned agsin with a second mort. He took a final run about and this time returned empty handed. Job done, less than 10 mins. The Principal was speechless and the young lad proudly took his pet home after receiving some reward for services. My brother's teacher pals told this story at my brother's wake when he died suddenly aged 50. In the intervening years he had moved to Clare, renovated a cottage just like yours and built a sympathetic 2 story extension and sheds to accommodate his growing family along with their chickens, 2 ponies, 2 goats, 2 pigs, 2 cows and organic garden. He would have loved your project and your channel. So yes...time is precious, waste it wisely! PS. Please give a content warning if you are going to show footage of Roland so I can fast fwd as even video footage terrifies me.

Soft green :) Soft green goes with the sofa. Don't be afraid of colours but I would suggest green tones since they act as a comfort/relaxing colour. You could go for a softer darker green on the wall towards the storage and and lighter one on the rest. Since you are working soooo hard as you do, make sure you create a realaxing little haven in there for as long as you use it to live in. It doesn't have to be expensive, some paunt, some curtains and some plants. Add some plants to soften the space up. The wall with the window, hang curtains from the roof but not blocking the window, hang in front of the wall, it will soften the room and also act as a soundbarrier. The rails on the roof (system available at a big swedish furniture company amongst others) can alter be used as a system to hang prints and sketches on for further builds, or taken down to be re-used in the house.

Roland will be focused on gathering nesting materials rather than food. We had issues with mice this time of year. We tried everything including fierce poison from the council pest control. So, the best was the snap trap. Instantly sorted once we worked out the route they used by watching on the camera. I love the cabin ❤

I work in a warehouse near a river where rats are a regular issue, we find packaging peanuts are something there always attracted to might be worth trying some of them, also something as simple as not wearing gloves when setting the traps because they might smell the human sent on it and that can put it off

That was excellent, lots and lots of questions answered. Remove Roland's food source then you will have a better chance to catch him with your bait, also don't touch the traps for weeks, rats do not like new things or new scents. I set a spring trap but don't have it sprung, when the rat starts to take the bait i put gloves on and set it, next morning Roland is in it.

I am new to KZbin and have loved watching your videos. They are inspirational. For me, between your channel and Itchy Boots, which Louise referred to I am enjoying relearning what women can do. It may be a worn out theme but I have a suggestion for dealing with the rat. My mother was Irish and lived on a farm in rural Ireland. The scourge of the rat was a familiar story. Like yourselves they would not put poison down because of the other animals. What they did was scare it witless. You can't dispense with strategic thinking as it is in the roof but you need to get angry with it.
@brianlopez8855Күн бұрын
I would go for a wall stain of "Driftwood", 2 coats dries to a matt finish. Its a light faded grey stain. Water based. Dries quickly, best applied on each plank before building with them though.
@normanfeerick66523 сағат бұрын
Re- Roland. I had a similar problem and rats are pretty much blind. They prefer to get around a room following the walls rather than cross a space the best place for traps ar at those edges hope it helps. Also the rats I cought seemed overly fond of Snickers bbars and you get to chew a bit without the calories.

Oh, Louise, you wicked wicked thing! I hadn’t thought about the Tyvek, or even noticed it was upside down, until you pointed it out and promised to explain the clever reason later. Then you never explained it and ever since I’ve been fretting, wondering was there actually a reason and had I unwittingly screwed up badly with it, at some point. Don’t worry, you’re forgiven. But I’m clever enough to know you know more than I do, so please keep in mind, when you do things like that, it has repercussions for me and people like me. I can’t ever do lives, no idea why, but as soon as you finish, I can watch the recording on YT. I’m about half way through now, having a blast, so thank you both for the belly laughs. We did end up using poison, situation sorted and our cats were fine. Good Luck!
