Just acquired a p38 and having jamming issues. Ordered a spring set from Wolffs Gunsprings, I think this video will help me with changing them as I’m only really familiar with the modern polymer pistols (Glock, M&P, Walther PPQ etc).

Good animation. This gun has a very little spring for the slide and it works. 5:33 Don't you think the bolt should push the cartridge into chamber, after that the extractor would hook the cartridge. In other words the extractor is pushing the cartridge without hooking it until chambered.

Isn't the round indicator supposed to press against the back of the cartridge not rest on top of it?, as per you animation it won't push back and indicate that there is a round in the chamber will it?

a ha, I can see how it works now, it pushes back on the top of the barrel and without a round it goes into the gap where the round would be.

Ahh, I see! There is something in the slide that drags the whole barrel & pushes the swiveling lock breach downward.

That's the "loaded chamber indicator" it protrudes at the back above the firing pin when there is a round in the chamber. In the animation it does not show the correct position, it should show it resting on the back of the cartridge case.

How do you keep dust cover and rear sight from falling off ? You have dust cover , spring and holder and a pin it all geos flying off. Not easy to find in grass. Really a wierd German set up over complicated for no reason whatsoever.

Why does the barrel move? Not sure I see a necessary reason for it to be mobile.

It’s because if the internal pressure of the cartridge, there needs to be some sort of delay so that the round being fired doesn’t explode outside of the chamber, I’m short recoil systems like this that comes from the barrel traveling back with the slide for a short period of time

The P38 predates the Glock by over two Decades.

Well, the P.38 is steel frame, Double-Action/Single-Action with a open slide, while the Glock is polymer, striker-fired with a conventional slide. The P.38 has a lot in common with the Beretta 92 aka M9. Have a nice day

Not even close. Operationally, the list of differences is longer than the list of similarities.

The Glock is an half-cocked striker-fired. The Walther P.38 is a SA/DA pistol with an external hammer. The only similarity : they were the first in their respective categories.

No, this is not a Glock with a hammer. For starters, the frame isn’t made of polymer and there is no safe action trigger. Get your act together.
