With the 51/60G MAN Diesel & Turbo brings the benefits of gas engines to power and co-generation plants with electrical outputs of 100 to 300 MW, a category previously dominated by gas turbines.
The 51/60G is available in a V-engine version with 18 cylinders and an electrical genset output of 18,465 kW. This output - 1,050 per cylinder for 50 and 60 Hz power generation - gives the 51/60G best-in-class power density among gas engines.

Theoretically? Yes. In practice? With some difficulty, yes. Diesel engines will run on pretty much anything. They are compression-ignition so they do not need a spark. As long as the fuel system can handle it and fire it into the cylinder at the right time, it will run provided that the cylinder temperatures are hot enough for auto-ignition. Large diesel engines like these will even run directly on crude oil, though for heavy crude oils you will need to heat it up a lot or even mix it with some kind of thinning agent.
