At 5:00 the x's on the right "remain centered" yeah, but why does it extend but not with the five x's centered there?

I need to create a 3D image of a model airplane and import it into SOLIDWORKS and then take slices of it so I can reconstruct the contours in a larger scale. Is this something I can do in SOLIDWORKS?
