Hehe. I actually hoped this would happen to people! It's an illusion where the shading and perspective lines trick the eye into seeing what's most logical or natural. In this case, it's more logical for our eyes to see Morty positioned back in the inset room because that's how rooms work. To have the room stick out forward off of the paper doesn't make sense to our brains, so the brain has trouble seeing what's really there.

I was thinking about anamorphic drawing illusions as a video topic, and this idea popped into my head after remembering things I'd seen a while back that play with similar perspective concepts (the illusion's been around for a while, but it's not commonly known). I came up with the subject/drawing itself.

Sorry, I've been out of town. I used 5.5"x8.5" paper for this. It's Canson Mix Media paper too, so pretty thick.
