Check out the insane results Turbo Render can produce when compared to the OPTIX and OIDN denoisers available from Blender's render settings. Also take a look at the jaw dropping additional features that come with Turbo Tools (which Turbo Render comes with).
By the way, in a new scene you wouldn't need to mess about with the compositor at all if you didn't want to, you can just turn it on and hit render with no messing about at all.

with the same success, you can make an OIDN denoiser on each direct / inderect layer and it will be just as clean, and it’s also good in production to increase the resolution when denoising
@3d-illusions
@3d-illusions 2 жыл бұрын
The addon actually goes substantially beyond that in not only ensuring the best result, but also automating a massive amount of work and much more. Regarding the increasing of samples, in some engines I believe that's done automatically, known as the internal sampling resolution. Another tip if you do increase the resolution, then you can decrease the samples 4x for each doubling of the resolution to compensate. This ensures the same render time with no loss in quality. Personally I no longer do this, as with Turbo Render I'm able to maintain detail even at lower resolution, which is also beneficial for post processing times. 👍

Love the idea of being able to render and composite simultaneously managing a single folder location. Does this work with multiple cache resolutions?
@3d-illusions
@3d-illusions 2 жыл бұрын
Well there are two types of cache, render layer cache (the cached render), and standard cache (the cache files for non render layer nodes). You can set the standard cache to different resolutions when you add them, but the render layer cache of different scenes can't be different resolutions when rendering them all from one compositor because blender doesn't seem to allow you to render different scenes at different resolutions simultaneously. You could render in 3 different blend files at different resolutions though, and providing the scene name, camera name, and view layer name are the same, then the refresh all button will import them into the 'master' blend file at whatever resolution they were rendered in.

Yeah the trick is to denoise and then multiple it with the color path, that contain the textures. I want to see high detailed, indirect lit interiors, just in white, maybe with glass… and no textures.. that kills each denoiser
@3d-illusions
@3d-illusions 2 жыл бұрын
if you send me a test scene to the support email together with a few example results you've had with other denoising solutions, i'll see if turbo render copes better than the other denoisers, because Turbo Render actually varies it's approach to denoising based on the scene and other settings, I suspect it will cope quite admirably. By the way, I think it was you that asked in the last video how it would cope with command line rendering, I've now added instructions on how to do this to the product page.

@@robertYoutub I've just been testing this with the classroom scene with a single override material and all lights turned off except the sunlight so that it's nearly all indirectly lit, the slow mode gives better results than fast mode, but you're right, this is much harder for the denoiser. After some trial and error though, I've devised a way to get excellent results in that scenario. I'll do further testing and if it doesn't cause any issues I'll add it in for a future update, either as an option, or automatically.

Yes you can, and you can even publish to ffmpeg or image sequence without needing to re-render because it generates an exr image sequence from which it re-publishes unlimited times . It’s recommended to render a small noise part of the image for a few frames to find the ideal samples preset.

Hey I've just started with blender a couple of months ago, so this will be a complete noob question. since I don't have the means to buy a competent computer for 3d I have to make it work with my Mac book pro. My question is. will this addon really render all my projects out at least 120x faster, than doing it with blenders render machine?
@3d-illusions
@3d-illusions 2 жыл бұрын
The biggest render time saving will be on scenes that take an hour upwards without denoising. The enhance textures option allows turbo to maintain high frequency textures that the render panel denoise options can't maintain even when providing them with images that have been rendered for 120x longer (as shown in the original video). Make sure you have sufficient specs to utilise the addon (these can be found on the product page).

@@ajubhaus8200 providing your specs are sufficient for your required resolution then you should get a saving. As far as rendering is concerned, no you just hit render and everything is automatic. If you want to utilise the publishing tools and other compositor tools, then yeah you'd need a basic understanding of the compositor. It's insanely simple though, basically a node that outputs your render result, and another node that receives it (it's input is the final image). You can add various nodes in between to modify the image, for example a brightness node, or a contrast node. Super easy, and very powerful.

This allows you to use the publish feature to then output to as many different formats as you want. Useful if you want to try different compositions etc. You might want to hold off starting your animation for a while as I'm releasing 2.15 hopefully later today, which will allow you to avoid animatin flicker even at low samples 👍 You can see examples of that here: blenderartists.org/t/turbo-render-cycles-renders-960x-faster/1365583/247?u=michael_campbell

is there any reason the denoising process is taking more than 6 minutes on its own even on the lowest setting?
@3d-illusions
@3d-illusions 2 жыл бұрын
With massive render resolutions the denoise time will be much longer, but if you set it to the 'draft/fast' denoise mode, then it will be an identical denoise time as using Blender's own denoisers from the render panel. Also make sure you don't have denoisers in the compositor as this will increase render time unnecessarily as Turbo will already be denoising. One last possibility is blender has failed to run the python code after rendering, this results in the turbo nodes not being removed after rendering, which will then lead to much longer denoise time's on subsequent renders, as it will be doubling up. Check the trouble shooting section titled: 'After rendering there are nodes in the compositor that shouldn't be there and the render is now returning the incorrect result -'

When you try it Lester, be sure to reduce your render settings to see the benefit. Some people are expecting it to be faster just by turning it on, whereas it just allows you to reduce the samples for a quicker render because it's able to do a better job at denoising than the inbuilt denoisers. Try draft mode with 'crap' sample preset, then high and high is my recommendation for the first try. I'll probably have it default to one of those combinations in the next release.

@3d-illusions
@3d-illusions 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes it's CPU. It's compared with OIDN in the video. This actually uses OIDN under the hood, it just uses it in a much smarter way. It has a multitude of approaches based on the turbo render options, scene content and also render settings. Basically like all addons, it just automates a huge amount of work at the touch of a button; such as automatic rewiring of existing node trees, file management, automatic sample settings, firefly prevention, multi scene render setup from one compositor, + all of the compositor tools shown in the video. It can be achieved manually, but it's a huge amount of work, particularly if you have many render layer nodes etc. It's basically 20 years of experience crammed into one addon (because I was sick of constantly repeating repetitive work :D ) The playback and realtime compositing on the other hand isn't possible at all without the addon, same for the automatic caching and other stuff shown in the video 👍

@3d-illusions
@3d-illusions 2 жыл бұрын
thanks for your interest. Turbo Render isn't a faster render engine, it's an advanced denoising configuration specific to each scene and various render settings. The speed gain is achieved by Turbo Render being able to produce high quality images from noisier renders than the standard denoise options are able to produce clean images from (particularly in regard to textures and geometry detail as shown in the videos). To get the speed increase you need to lower the samples (or use the sample settings presets provided). for animations you'll need to use higher settings than still images to avoid temporal flicker, although I'm currently working on temporal denoising (should be ready in a week or so).

@3d-illusions
@3d-illusions 2 жыл бұрын
@@basspig I’m unfamiliar with your work, but if you’re happy with the optix results at 20 seconds, then I’d suggest your scenes are not currently complex enough to take advantage of turbo render. The biggest savings are on scenes that take hours to render without denoising, in which case turbo generally brings them down to between 1 and 10 minutes. For example a customer emailed me to let me know their 7 hour render had been reduced to 8 minutes. Having said that, the new draft mode does allow for enhanced textures, which will produce staggeringly better high frequency texture detail than oidn and optix . Just bare in mind that turbo can take longer to process than optix (dependant on your cpu), so for 20 second renders you might expect slightly slower overall render time per frame due to the cpu denoising….but you may be able to reduce the render time to compensate for the slower denoising if the scene allows.
