As it takes place in a carnival, maybe the T.rex is fake and it's just some guy in a cheesy dino suit? Imagine being in a scary circus maze and you are chased by Barney the dinosaur!🦖

In the beginning of the game there's a text that says the the t-rex is real and that we as the player willingly go in the maze to see the t-rex. The boss:"Our customers are very loyal,they stay in and never ask for refunds".
@mikehawk4388

The text warnings are lowkey unsettling--it's cool how simultaneously simple & complex this is. Way way back in the 90s as a kid, I had a Land Before Time PC (MAC OS/maybe Win95) game that had a minigame a lot like this! You'd hunt for 'tree stars' in a maze & have to avoid the 'sharptooth' in certain areas where the music vanished. Scary but addicting for a lil dweeb. To think this game came nearly 15 years earlier is crazy, because the basic program was identical.

Hey, is there a chance you are talking about The Land Before Time Math Adventure? It featured a similar maze with scary music and a Rex that would wander the maze randomly if you were slow enough. I am almost thirty years old and that children's game still gives me nightmares.
@thewolfgabe3656

@@EvilCarrotSauce I actually think it was Land Before Time Activity Center. You basically were Cerah exploring a maze searching for items but you had to avoid Sharp Tooth who would make you start over if he caught you.

Ngl but the way this game is so silent and then all of a sudden the text will say *”RUN”* is actually lowkey creepy. Plus all the warnings you get until it says *”HE IS BEHIND YOU”* is good horror, no loud annoying sounds or jumpscares or forced “scary” design, just complete silence until you see those messages and all of a sudden the t-rex appears in front of you with it’s creepy smile
@Titanruler
@Titanruler 2 жыл бұрын
If someone remakes this now, all I want is that they don’t add jumpscares or noise. Sometimes pure silence is more terrifying than scary music

So something akin to 1916: The Unknown War a forgotten dinosaur game that gives the feeling of watching an old era war movie, like early WW1 levels of old.

I actually think it would be less scary if it had better graphics. The dino's undefined silhouette with the contrasting bright white eyes and moth gives it that fear factor. If it was an actual model with details, it would be sillier then anything.

Walking around at nighttime in Ark Survival Evolved was one of the most terrifying things I have ever experienced in a non-horror game. It's sad that no sizeable game developers have explored horror game opportunities with dinosaurs. It would also be fitting as the first horror game EVER had a dinosaur chase you.

this game is way more scary now than it was in 1982 cuz now its an analog horror game and it does this really well because its "organic" unlike modern analog horror which can be overdone into not being that scary

This game was WAY ahead of anythng else that was around back then on what was a pretty puny computer (low res graphics, no sound, no colour and a base memory of 1k (upgradable to 16k with a wobbly external RAM pack - which founder Clive Sinclair advised owners to stabalise with a bit of bluetack!). Ahhh good times

The graphical view, animated in real time at around 6 frames per second, is composed of 8×8 pixel black-and-white characters, so the view is roughly square, taking a 25×24 area on the 32×24 text screen. Sub-character resolution of the ZX81 pseudo-graphics character set makes the resolution doubled in each dimension (making the view consist of 50×48 "larger pixels"). Using the 6 pseudo-graphics with a dithering pattern also made it possible for the game author to incorporate a third colour (grey) in the black-and-white picture. Part of the screen is reserved for the score count, and a one-line status message is occasionally overlaid at the bottom of the graphical view. The player always runs along the corridor's centreline, and looks in the current direction only, which simplifies the rendering task.

For what it’s worth, this is just horror, not survival horror. Survival horror includes action game elements, such as the ability to defeat enemies. Sorry to nitpick, it’s just that horror in gaming goes well beyond survival horror, even though that subgenre tends to attract the lion’s share of attention.
@trexindominus8119
@trexindominus8119 2 жыл бұрын
Who said survival horror needed to include action game elements?
@diebesgrab
@diebesgrab 2 жыл бұрын
@@trexindominus8119 The natural evolution of the English language? Genres are defined much the same way any other new word or phrase is-by convention. Convention has demonstrated that games like Resident Evil 3 and Silent Hill are commonly considered to be survival horror, while games like Doki Doki Literature Club or D‘s Diner generally are not. I’m not saying that survival horror games feature heavy action elements-games like Resident Evil 6 or Castlevania are more action games with horror elements. That said, survival horror games generally feature ways for the player to actively fight back against threats, typically in the form of weapons; hence, some action elements.
@sheilaburrowes9081
@sheilaburrowes9081 9 күн бұрын
Survival horror hasn't attracted the lion's share of anything in decades, unless you're including modern action-horror masquerading as survival horror. To me, the first real survival horror game was AitD and that's still the template for defining the genre (even if it was originally applied retrospectively). RE's devs can claim they were doing Sweet Home all they want but RE got its entire gameplay loop from AitD (and, tbf, they were honest about it). Survival horror can be defined either by abstraction or archetype. The former is what allows some people to claim that a horror-themed 2D RPG like Sweet Home is survival horror, and I think it's probably the definition to which you subscribe. The latter is a stricter definition that includes the 3D world, fixed camera angles (FCA), action-based combat, risk vs reward calculations, and various other elements shared by AitD, RE, SH, DC etc. By this definition, survival horror, though currently seeing an indie renaissance, much to my joy, "died" after about 2005 ("moribund" would be more accurate than "dead": really just relegated to niche status, akin to graphic adventure games). The latter is the definition to which I subscribe. After all, Capcom coined "survival horror" to describe the archetype created by AitD and solidified by RE1 -- the further we drift from the presentation and gameplay found in those games, the less we represent the coherence of SH as a major genre from 1992 to 2005. Some people moan about FCA being a criterion, but we have ample precedent for it: the FPS genre only makes sense from the first-person perspective, for example. To me, the horror-cinematic nature of SH given by its FCA is as intrinsic as the risk vs reward aspect, as it was for the namesake series. Though I agree with your central thesis that SH requires combat to facilitate resource usage in order to fulfil the major criterion of risk vs reward. In a universe where Monster Maze 3D is survival horror, what _can't_ be counted? That kind of broadening of the definition, which has led to some people calling games like Outlast or Amnesia "survival horror", is exactly why it should be quite specific. Frankly, the battle to stop runaway broadening was lost the moment that RE4 was labelled "survival horror". Great game, not SH. Even if you're not a FCA purist like me, the fact that there's enough ammo to kill everything twice over should be enough to put that debate to bed. Shame that it also killed the classic line of RE games and led to bullshit like RE5 & 6.
