If you are a true fan of my work, Im sure you are aware of the fact that in 1997 my father committed suicide. I was 10 years old, the oldest of his 3 kids, and his only girl. I was a daddy's girl and during this 4 minute and some odd second song I rediscovered those emotions I hid that very day that I learned of my daddy's demise.
I didn't plan on releasing this record. It was actually recorded on the same day I was set to drop my last mixtape {Guess Who's Coming 2 Dinner which went on to become 2010's Mixtape of the Year and be the key to me winning Lyricist of the Year and Best Female Artist}. After playing the record I was persuaded to include it on the project. It went on to become one of the most critically acclaimed records on the tape... and because of that, I put my pride to the side and decided to direct a visual for it. Though it was hard to make, it was important. It was also theraputic.
@NedraPop, Arie B., @ItsKMack, @TheGodofHair, Rocki, @Ireon103, @UptownJosh, John, Janae Thomas, G-Tekk, Brandon Williams, Ms.Alfreda, Lan, and all the listeners who anticipated the release of this video.

Wow Na'tee. I never heard of you until today. You were on Sway's Universe killing, as you've done on all your own videos. I can hear and feel your pain though. On a positive not, I can also hear your growth through your life lessons. You are really amazing. I acknowledge your stuggle, but that struggle has made an outstanding lady and queen. Not making light of your losses, but you are going to save lives through your testimony. I will be praying for your continued success and I pray that you keep growning to new levels and higher heights. Love ya Na'tee. God bless you

It's 2016 and I am sharing this song with a friend. I told him this is the song that made me honored to have met Na'Tee. I never got that chance with Tupac. Almost 5 years later, I feel the same way. The fact that you still on here responding to comments let's me know that you deserve every bit of my support. Carlos will always be in your corner as you know. I'm still honored and I still NEED this music. Nobody but you knows what you have had to put up with to keep your soul, but trust me when I say some of us appreciate you carrying the cross for real hip hop. Stay strong.

A generation ago, when this style called rap began, it was fun and whimsical--stuff for the party and the club. But what sustained it and expanded it was its ability to help the listener make sense of the joy and pain of life--the tragedy and the triumph. We call that Soul. Soul made Rap an Art Form. Ms 3D Na 'Tee you are a true artist--like the Blues singers of bygone eras. To me, you might be Bitchy, but you will never be a bitch. I'm not SIMP, but from here you look like a Queen. Keep grindin.

I cry every time I hear this song. I know how she feels. My dad let me down too. It changes who you are as a woman when your dad is not your pillar of strength. When he becomes the child and you the adult at such a young age. I saw my dad try to hang himself when I was in grade 5. Except my father didn't kill himself that day. He tried to many more times again. He drank his soul away. He passed out, many times somewhere in the neighborhood, on someones lawn. Pissed his pants in front of everyone. Got beaten up. He's been locked up in jail or the psychiatric ward many times. He's the neighborhood joke. I'm 33 years old now. My father is 65 years old now. He's blind, senile, and has brain damage from drinking. He didn't actually die but his soul did a long time ago. He's a zombie now. The body is alive but the brain, heart and soul are long dead. It changed the way I see men. I don't care about them. I don't trust them. I don't depend on them for anything. I don't care if they have money or not. Thats not what i need from them. I can take care of myself. They use me and I use them. I don't respect them. I'm a strong woman but it's no thanks to my father, or maybe it is. I'm angry at god. I hate the world. I hate life and humanity. I hate myself the most. I try to act tough but I drink and I hurt and destroy myself the same way my father did. I still have hope though. Some days are good, some bad. I keep trying.

Damn...........................I just listened to "Maria" for the first time, and then "Dear Father" ; I had to instantly replay both songs...........I can honestly say from only hearing these two songs so far, these songs achieve the superlative of pathos, sincerity, emotional expression, etc, that can be achieved by music. Certain songs by Tupac, Lauren Hill, Sade, and Alanis Morissette come to mind. This is substance. This is what hip hop should sound like. As long as the quality of the beats matches the quality of the lyrical content, and she gets the exposure she deserves, she's going to have a major impact on hip hop.

The key is hope. Even if the next day is worse than the previous the next will be better. Never ask for a child's unconditional love if you can't give it back.
