Hey Everyone! No idea what the heck happened to my audio from 11:12 - 12:46, something got messed up and it repeated my opener, so now you get to hear the unedited version of that. But here's what I was talking about during that messed up segment: For projects with a lot of flat surfaces I have been putting on what is called Ironing. You can find this setting, and about a billion other settings by going up to the settings tab and finding Ironing. What Ironing does is it goes back over the last layer but doesn't print any filament, what it does is it melts the top layer and smooths it out. I like to use this for game pieces to make sure things get a nice fit and just so they look and feel nice. Feel free to skip to 12:46 to see this happening. So that's what I was talking about in that segment. Again sorry about the repeat I have no idea what happened and didn't catch it! Thanks for the commenter who brought this to our attention!

Like I told you the other night, my library got a 3D printer and in two weeks I can use it. This will be my first project I think. I’m pretty excited.

Thanks for the nod Nick! We love how the chits just snap in and you're so right about the overall sensory upgrade. I'll upload a version of the model that doesn't take up as much room on the board, but we've just gotten used to placing ours on sideways, lol.

I just did these. Thought I had the size right and ended up printing the majority of them too small. So I had to slightly trim some of the chits. The rest I printed properly. Wish i had seen this video first! 105% was the perfect size for me. But I just love them!! And I made it work. Love these videos!

I love how Nick just will not let go of the fact that Quacks has zero ducks in it. Definitely used duck magic at the end as personal commentary - well played, sir.

For these really small pieces, a smaller nozzle does wonders for detail and cleanliness. I make board game pieces with a .2mm tip instead of the standard .4mm. You have to set the temperature a little higher and the speed a little slower, but the detail is impressive. Very useful for little chits, coins, and minis.

Good call! I have been wanting to experiment with other nozzle sizes

Thank you for the Quacks of Quedlinburg 3D print videos, I am currently printing these and the boxes, too. I wish you could do an insert for Steampunk Rally, that is one game that sorely needs inserts or other organizing tools.

Loved it. Would like to see an insert for great western trail. With the expansion if possible.

Just an idea to help you be able to get them out in the future would be a small pin hole in the middle of the back then you can use a paperclip to poke out the token if you ever needed to.

If Kandyhouse is selling more of those bags I would definitely be interested. The bags that come with the game are my one gripe with what is an amazing game!

What's with the audio repeating from the start at around the 12 min mark? Maybe it's just me

No idea what happened here, super weird. Something must have gotten messed up in the editing or exporting process. I will write a comment and pin it to the top of the comments so people can read see what I was actually saying lol

If you didn't spell out 'Chits' in the title of this video, that is NOT how I would've understood it! Never heard that as a word before your videos foot note, it was great meeting you at Origins! that game was BANANAS

good video, good content. but please invest in a tripod to hold your camera... i got a little dizzy when you were talking about the different sizes you printed in order to test fit the pieces.. there's also a remix of these which have an open back, so you can see both sides of the chip.. also uses less material and time to print them..

Lol we actually have one, and I was using it during the bit where I was putting the cardboard into the bits. But not during that shot, and you're right, it's mega shaky, my bad,

Just curious, how much roughly in materials does this sort of thing cost? Different colors and what not...
@TheBrothersMurph5 жыл бұрын
Are you talking about all of the materials, or just how much the materials cost for doing this specific project?
@benjaminjohnson83775 жыл бұрын
I’m curious, for this specific project?
@danielpreilly775 жыл бұрын
Yah, not the printer, but how much the plastic costs to do projects like this.
@TheBrothersMurph5 жыл бұрын
@@danielpreilly77 I'm not sure the exact cost, but it's probably a couple bucks, tops. Filament, good filament, is relatively cheap. A 1kg roll is around $20 for good filament. Just off a rough estimate from what it says in my slicer profile, 20 of these bits takes 27g of filament to print. You have to print out 219 of them for the game, rounded up to 220 for easy math sake, is 297g of filament total. And if it's around $20 per 1kg roll, that's around $6. Now that's if you were using all one color. We got a pack of colors, 12, 1/2 kg rolls of different colors for like $110. So it's around the same price, maybe a few cents cheaper. 3D printing is actually pretty cheap once you have the printer. The main thing it takes is time. This project was around 40 hours of printing total. But if you're willing to invest the time, the actual cost is pretty cheap. If you're printing massive projects and going through a ton of plastic then the price goes up, but even then relative to how big of a thing you're printing it's still cheap. Hope this answered your question!

When we did the math for the full print I think it came to something like $8.50 worth of material, if you spend $20 for your PLA. Each one only uses 1.4 /1000 gram spool.

What kind of printer do you have? It may have been in there but I missed it. I'm looking to get a 3d printer finally but I've been nervous about printer quality.
