Thank you for making this video. So many videos showing how gear ratios can affect speed, hardly any showing how gear ratios can affect torque as well. So amazing that a little 5V motor can lift decapounds!

This kind of makes me want to see a generator build using falling weights. I think there was an initiative a while back that did that sort of thing, but they used a clock mechanism to prevent the acceleration of the wheel to make it generate for longer. I'm thinking with the low torque of the high gear ratio you could do something similar to what windup music boxes do, and use a fast spinning flag to limit the acceleration. The air resistance prevents it from going beyond a certain speed.

the mechanism you are speaking of is a ecapment the is also a more heavy duty/ different mechanism that is known as a governor its was used on steam engines in the 1800s

I've been researching this for a while. Actually u can slow down the weight speed by adding ressistance to the generator output using a resistor. I'm not sure how its works, but maybe @3d printer academy can show it to us

For those who don’t know: E= MC2 You’re literally turning the mass (your weight that you’re lifting and its potential energy) into electrical energy with the gearbox and motors. It’s literally the same concept when you lift at the gym. You are using potential energy, Mass, and a fulcrum for power. - The only caveat is you need really strong materials to hold that mass and not break. For a flywheel battery , you are taking a mass and accelerating it, instead of just letting it fall at just under 10 m/s. - then you’re bound by the strength of the material as it is accelerated, making sure it doesn’t break while you magnetically brake at an incredibly high speed. - Think of having a giant truck with hundreds of tons (or a Tesla going 300 mph, and trying to stop it. Same concept) - you could literally also harness some of that lost energy at the road if you had a wireless road and modified wheels.

How much output could you get from the motor-turned-generator with the 30lbs? The load on the generator could act as a governor.

Hi @Tomasz S, three things to try (I'm sure there are more) - 1) print with an 8mm or more brim. 2) If your first layer is extruding more than 100%, reduce that to 100%. 3) Try the first two first and see how it goes and if that doesn't fix it, try reducing your print bed temperature by 5 degrees. 4) Bonus - if your fan is starting at layer 1, try delaying that till layer 2 or 3. Your mileage may vary.

There's gotta be a better way to fasten your stuff down. Hot glue ain't it thankfully it worked this video. But I've been here long enough it doesn't always work. Maybe try 3d printing flat plate with two hole for a nut and washer. For the 5v motor holder.

I would love to see this gearbox driven by a high speed Tesla turbine. If you had a rotor speed of 26,000 rpms (more than doable for a Tesla) on the input side, you could get a respectable 101 rpms on the output side.

Teverything is worked out by lever arcimesdy or ghow u spell his name said iff he had a lever long enough he could move the world and i believe it i think i could lift a house with a 5v dc motor..a mamn on youtube lifts 80kg with a tiny 5v motor well put 1 of them motors on 2 another 1 then on anothwe1 ye it may take hours 4 that final gear 2 spin but the force in it would be insane

And the part where the rope is around or syring the bigger it is tbe less power it will pull cos thats like a lever near enough everything is worked out by lever cos it has 2 spin more times 2 pull the same amount of twine givibg it more stregth i got it all i just can build stuff dont no why
