Please Note: I take no responsibly for how you use this bumper duct. Just be smart about your intake design and how you drive in wet weather. Have a way to disconnect it easily if there are concerns about hydro-locking. All three intake setups that I show you in this video can be quick disconnected in less than 2 seconds if the need arises.

For those that have my 2014-2016 tC intake duct, here's how you install it. I don't have a storefront, so if you're interested in one, please find and contact me on Facebook Messenger. The duct is printed with eSun PETG at 100% infill. You will need to sand and finish it yourself if you want the smooth look.
The duct kit takes 2 days to print and prep everything and includes the following:
• Duct with 3" Outlet
• Honeycomb Grill

Besides the 3d printer. This is a very cheap and easy mod. I bought a vent and duct online and i did practically the same setup on my car. It gives you a little hp and acceleration which im okay with for $25.00

I'm trying to do something like this for my ek civic sedan with the stock side ducts, whatever passes around my pipe right now runs thru vents in my wheel well cover, I added a little gap between the bumper and intake right now because rain a concern being my daily driver and that plus the inlet pipes bend going straight up after keeps rain out good enough for Florida weather and for a heat shield around my filter I used a battery cover from a 92 Harley and made it flip up so I can remove the filter for cleaning, urs looks pretty solid, great video !

@DA. This is so awesome and I have a 3d printer too. Have you been able to engineer this same idea to the 2011-2013 Scion TC as it does have a different bumper? Also, with the vent duct would there be any issues of debris or tiny rocks on the road getting into the air intake and possibly into the engine block? I know it may be very rare if never though.

Unfortunately no. Someone was supposed to send me a section of old bumper for me to work with, but that never happened. Now I just don't have the time. As for debris, there's still an inline air filter to keep out dirt out and I have never had any issues with road debris.

It was a honeycomb mesh I found on Amazon, cut to size, and put edge trim around.

I found that on eBay listed specifically for my gen tC. It's literally a huge piece of rubber, but it works and it looks good with the duckbill.

I've driven in torrential downpour with only two or three car lengths of visibility multiple times without any issues.

Would adding an upgraded cold air intake to a 2013 Scion tC really be worth the money and effort?

It really depends on how you have it set up. Since I have mine channel to an enclosed filter, I actually get up to 1.8 psi on the highway from ram air.

@@VampyreX13 I'm not a mechanic (just good with my hands) so that's "Greek" to me. LOL !! If I was to install one, do I need to tune my engine or something? Just asking because they are pretty expensive, and the money would be totally wasted if there was something extra I had to do (that I have no clue about) to get the most out of it and feel an actual difference in performance. I am sure I could install one properly, but beyond that ..... I am clueless. I am trying to add simple upgrades that don't need an experienced mechanic. I envy your knowledge base. I always wanted to be a mechanic but never got the chance to learn. Had to provide for a family from a young age.

@@jameshydra1031 no, you don't need to tune for one. The ECU / sensor has enough range to compensate and you'll get some performance boost. It'll be better if you get a tuned ECU as well, but those require a header at minimum. Just make sure you get a quality brand intake or you may get a check engine light. If I recall, Injen is supposed to be good and can be converted from cold air to short air.

Unfortunately, I do not have the time or resources (only 1 printer) for that. It took me days and several test prints just to get it to sit flush with the 2014-2016 bumper.

The car doesn't overheat. If that's happening, then your radiator fan must be broken. I'm talking about air intake temps and you're talking about engine coolant temps at this point.

Does it really makes any diffrence with turbocharger, which creates highest temperatures after air filter and after that all depends on intercooler performance?

It should help since most setups I see have the air filter close to the engine / turbo manifold, so the air is already hot to begin with and now it's getting even hotter through compression. The intercooler is only going to be able to lower the temperature so much. Having the starting air be cooler will result in the air that finally makes it into the engine being a litter bit cooler as well. That being said, I would only use the duct to channel outside air in towards the air filter instead of having it fully enclosed (like my ram air intake) as the sucking force from the turbo could pull water in.

@@VampyreX13 Yesterday I did same thing, just air duct for K&N Apollo. I was a bit afraid to make it fully enclosed (dust + water). Today I will check if there is some diffrence.

@@VampyreX13 I will try it soon, as I just finished other smaller mods :), you think in your 2nd set up, there is no possibility to take rain water/dust? I did similar thing with Apollo K&N. I inserted air duct pipe inside Apollo filter but it is not totally enclosed, so it will not work as vacuum cleaner:)

@@konradkiebowicz5800 I drive every day with my fully enclosed setup even in torrential downpour and occasionally plowing through standing water or having standing water splashed onto me (while at normal driving speeds) to the point that I couldn't see anything for a second or two, and had no issues.

No. I was supposed to get a bumper section sent to me to test fit against, but that fell through.

How where you able to get the ducting to mount to the cone filter (4:15) I started designing my own intake but would like to keep my current cold air intake

@@adamsherwin4093 you need to find an intake filter that is designed to have an inlet. I think Weapon-R may have one. You also need to make sure that the end of the filter doesn't stick out too far that you can't route the flexible hose past the battery. I actually custom designed and 3D printed the inlet adapter for that low profile Spectre air filter.

The inlet will 'bunch' the air because of that lip. It might look good but it will not perform at its best or maximise air intake.
