Dam! This is a near perfect design. Started designing my own on Fusion 360, but yours are far superior to mine and well thought out. Thank you

I’ve got sockets EVERYWHERE and this, is awesome. The first design I looked at when I searched 3d printed socket organizers. Ironic, I have all the magnets as they are stuck in return products we receive and are essentially tossed (yeah, tossed). Love the design. Will definitly print. THANK YOU!

NICE.. Terracing is nice, makes identifying the desired socket easier. Color coding for Metric vs SAE is a great idea.

awesome man! so glad this video came up in my recommendations. just got my 1st 3D printer and the 1st thing on my list once it's dialed in is tool storage. Seems like people selling the EVA foam stuff thinks their sht is made from gold. This has got to be the next best solution.

Great print. Might be an idea to print the first section, pause the print to insert the magnets, then resume the print. It would encase the magnets and hold them in place. Also make wiping the bottom of particles easier.

Hey Build Bug, I love the way the numbers pop out, for my design I relied on the etching on the socket to be facing forward. If I knew how nice it would look, I'd do what you did. I did a slight change with the magnets. I have a slot on the side to slide in bar magnets, this way metal flakes and stuff cant get in to. Mind you, I use my organizers in a packout tool box, so I often pull them out which allows the magnets to pick up garbage. It's always nice to see what other makers come up with. I posted my design on my channel also if you'd like to have a look! Thanks, Marcus

you could always print a single layer and glue it to the bottom at .1 or .2mm thick, that should not effect the strength too much but also make it easier to wipe off. on an easier note, you could uses box tape to do the same with a more cushy feel as it stuck to metal objects. Thanks for this video, I love this.

I feel you brothers thanks for making it can definitely relate and have the exact same ideas rare earth magnets purchased in bulk (for savings )im assuming ?! Am I right self made organizers i had the same socket organizers in the box i have at home i finally tossed them years ago after nothing fit where it was supposed to 🤬 then i start shopping for organizers and im beating myself up for not keeping them or selling at least. Hell yeah keep wrenching! Crap on ftw baby! How much is a 3d printer to get set up and printing these?

Those look really good. I wonder if one could print center pins in the socket wells or even just simply not use the magnets at all, especially if you only ever needed a few sockets at a time. No reason to take the from the drawers. The wells look deep enough to hold them in place when the drawer is opened and closed.
@buildbug39793 жыл бұрын
You could just omit the magnets. The holes are quite deep and the sockets seem to stay in there just fine. I added the magnets primarily so I could slam my drawers shut without the possibility of creating a socket avalanche inside. The only other benefit is the slight bit of tactile feedback you get when you insert a socket, the magnet sucks the socket in which is kinda satisfying.
@Dogalot13 жыл бұрын
@@buildbug3979 @CrimFerret -- I wasn't planning on using any magnets, so I lowered each by 4mm to use less filament...

I feel like a fool for asking this question, but I liked the design so much I HAD to use it. I seem to be getting stuck using some of the parameters. When I increase the height of any Tier, the render generates a warning about the labels ... I assume it's the fact that when I increase the height, they slide down the face of the 45 degree chamfers .... and for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to edit that sketch ... it's as-if it's one large immutable object on the screen. I want/need to move the entirety of the tier labels up to fit uniformly on the face of the chamfer. Any tips would be MUCH appreciated, I'm very new F360.

Love your video! Thanks for the thingverse upload but can you tell me your secrete on not losing 10mm sockets? You had all 3 sizes in there. What's your story? We'll not speak of the other missing sizes cause stuff happens. But to have all 3 10mm is a miracle in itself.
@Dogalot13 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing a great idea!!! One thing I thought of for the magnetized portion -- maybe create a slot to slide like the magnet from a refrigerator/freezer. It's a strip - so would leave the bottom solid (then can wipe away the metal shavings easier) - and slip through under the sockets... possibly thought of that because I have a bit of them laying around after replacing an old door -- ;) But still -- really appreciate you sharing your skills like this!!!

Great job. Looks good and is utilitarian. One comment though. Most engineers I've met in my 30 years working at automotive say metric, which always should be expressed in lowercase mm, and inches or English, or American. We have been a metric nation since 1870, yet in most tool rooms everyone uses imperial. That is the correct way of comparing inches to metric. It's called imperial because it was based on the size of the king's foot, finger, forearm, which was a cubit no longer used. Thanks for not smoking during the seminar, but say metric and say imperial and you will be smarter than 80% of the engineers that I have ever met in my years as a design engineer.

Not sure if I'm missing something (very easily I do ;) ) -- the 1/2" file is too big for the CR6-SE I have... was there one that was split like the other into 2 parts that can nudge together? I've looked at Fusion360 and don't understand ANYTHING in it to do any modifications... Again -- a really great idea and thanks for the files!

Did you just paint over the numbers to color them or what?
@buildbug39793 жыл бұрын
I used an oil based 'Sharpie' brand paint pen. I recommend you sand the faces of the letters first to interrupt the fine lines left by the printer. If not, the paint will tend to get pulled off the faces by capillary action and look muddy.
