The head scan would be good for making facial prosthetics for movie make up. The actor doesn't have to sit for hours getting a mold of their face made. They come in for 20 minutes or so, or you bring the scanner to them. Then the artist can either print it and work in clay or just sculpt on it digitally.

It's a commercial machine with a commercial price. Expected that from the start. Now after printing almost exclusively large format the last six years, large format has grown in both capability with somewhat relative entry-level price by leaps and bounds the last few. $2500 is still a bit steep, but those machines will stand toe to toe with this printer while still utilizing open formats, slicers and universal resins. That's always been my big qualm with Form, that you're stuck in their ecosystem for both software and resins. I much prefer doing manual supports to maximize plate loading and minimizing resin while still getting first run parts with zero failures. When you can't tune your resins, you don't have the opportunity to dial a resin to perfection where it holds onto the plate, but all you need is light twisting pressure to separate it Very cleanly. The mark of a professional/power user of resin printers is the lack of gouges in their plate when compared to how many LCD screens they've expended in production time. 😉
@Chaosghoul2 ай бұрын
but you can tune Formlabs materials and you can also do manual supports in PreForm?
@C-M-E2 ай бұрын
@@Chaosghoul Not sure how it works with this printer in particular, but so far as I understood previously, everything was fixed and set in preform with no deviation or custom settings. You push a button on what resin you're going to print, set layer heights, and that's as much customization outside of orienting parts and such.
@Chaosghoul2 ай бұрын
@@C-M-E You were correct for the longest time, but PreForm added custom settings a couple versions ago (no matter the printer type, even Fuse now). You can head into edit and then use the Print Settings Editor to make custom profiles and tune basically every setting you want. Custom supports has been a thing forever. 46 micon pixels with a 354 mm wide bed would mean 7674 pixels wide or nearly 8K resolution. That's pretty decent. Resolution might not be everything, but I wonder how noticable it would be on such large prints. I was considering buying the current Elegoo Jupiter. It has a 4K resolution wich is a quite low, especially for a large form printer. It wouldn't surprice me if the next gen gets a much higher resolution aswell. $9500 might not be within the budget for now, but the Jupiter for $800 would be 😀

One would argue you’re actually paying for reliability formlabs is predicated its business on having high print success and very low print failures. Yes cheaper machines are out there with more affordable resin but what use is that when it takes 10 prints to get 1 functional model?
@atherisgreen13912 ай бұрын
@patrickd1606 Almost all new resin printers from companies like phrozen, elegoo, anycubic have very high success rates these days. Ever since they started introducing heaters into the units, failures are almost non-existent. So that alone doesn't justify the price. They're trying to brand themselves as Apple does, but really it's all the same tech used by the companies mentioned above, in nicer packaging, marked up 1000%.

$10.000 For that I would prefer to buy the new Prusa Pro HT90 Industrial Delta heated chamber giant 3D printer. not Resin so not Toxic to work with and more than detailed printing system and fast Klipper output FDM printing which is better as you can deal with the waste filaments and supports with them being Toxic like the Resin ones will be. That's why I given up doing resin with my Elegoo Saturn 2 printer, the Resin liquid is toxic and flumes are toxic the supports left over is non disposable and the waste water which I had using the water washable resin was also non disposable as you can't dump it down the drains or even on the ground, I live in the UK so the option to set the resin in the wash water is not possible as you need tons of strong hot sunlight to do that. shook horrible we don't have that here. Also I've found that there is no toxic waste disposer centers here either I could take the waste wash water to. So that was a expensive system wasted there, time you include the large washing and curing system I had to buy too. over £500 of tech I can't use now! I've still got 14 liters of stored waste wash water I can't set the resin that is in it. I should have brought another FDM printer instead, And no I did research it all for ages, But the reviewing youtube channels did not state the waste resin washing water problem? They all live in hot sunny states in the US and ever said about sorting out of the waste washing water in non hot sunny places. like the UK.
