What do you think of Yankees and the variety of knockoffs? Fun fact: I was introduced to Yankees at the San Fran cable car museum in 2019, I now own more than a handful.

Fun fact, when you are porting the intake on the head of an engine, if you leave a rough surface, it will flow a higher cfm than if you polish it. Same as the golf ball principal. Using air as a lubricant.

i'm guessing there's going to have to be a gear set involved. is this one of those projects where you replace a four-pound electric mechanism with six pounds of light-weight materials? lol.

You can borrow a trick you will find on some push bikes, in that they do not run the brake cable sleeved all the way, rather where it needs to be flexible, its sleeved, where it isn't its tied to the frame and the frame provides the rigidity. This I suspect both reduces cost and weight. You have three struts, if my memory serves, are hollow - running the cable inside is also possible. I'd also set it up so the jaw is closed by being pulled via spiral spring on the lever control end, sort of a version of a grip spring - i.e a X with a spring opening the bottom and the cable running across the top - the opposite of a bicycle break lever. This way you active it with grip strength and when not using uses no energy. Plus you can 'grab' things and play with them without effort...

What's worse with the dowsing thing is if you can't even explain why it works if they prove it to be plausible

I was told that a "wise man knows what he does not know" Every project that I refused to bid on, always went sideways. I would always tell the the customer why I was not bidding on the project and why I thought that it would not be successful. Most of the customers would come back and request a quote on a solution that would be successful.

Well Adam, there is something to be said for rescuing old tools, not just for the rarer specific ones, but for the quality and makeup of the steel they're made from. Heck, even wooden handles seem better on older tools because they can feel more comfortable, warmer, more sturdy and harder wearing. It saddens me to imagine that these qualities will eventually be lost forever.

I don’t think I’ve been more comforted by a tested video than this one. This one hit home HARD. Everything. Even the big job that he failed at(which I remember from another video in which he gave more detail.) that has happened to me. And the failing, the learning your boundaries. It all hit home. Thank you for this video Adam. It’s like a warm hug. ❤️

Oh man, if my old shop supervisor ever saw half the things you do he'd yell and send you out of the shop on your ass 🤣 Just to mention a few of the infractions witnessed in this episode alone: 1. Insufficient eye/ear protection 2. Wearing lose fitting jewellery/watch when operating high powered spinning machinery 3. Making physical contact with a machine tool while it is in movement Love everything you do, but do I ever get a twinge of mild panic when I see you do something that would have given me a reprimand 🤣🤣

I print stuff like that all the time on our Heidelberg XL 106 8 color, these presses are cable of photograph quality Printing @ 16,000 sheets per hour, the newer Presses can print up to 20,000 an Hour with picture perfect quality. No that is not spot Varnish, it's probably UV spot Coating, Varnish yellows over time, 30 years ago when I started in printing, Varnish was a go to for glossy effects. UV is more expensive, but is 5x as protective and doesn't change color over time.

I wish there was more of a demo of why it didn't work, but I think everyone knows the pain of a long day of work and at the end nothing has. As a kind of generalist I worked as a studio catalog and fashion photographer, as a Photoshop and desktop layout design guy and middling woodworker over the decades. And all of them have been full of the "that was quicker and easier than I thought it would be" and "why is nothing working?!?" moments. The frustration moments feel like Clint Eastwood mocking "Man's gotta know his limits" and then pushing through and bam it all works. And sometimes you have to punt and ask for help. And isn't it great when YOU get asked for help and see the pain and frustration and walk in an make a little tweak and they are OH MY GOD and you have to grin and say, BEEN THERE DONE THAT, HAVE THE TSHIRT and explain it took you time to learn that tweak. I always think of the panic John Lithgow's character Curnow has in "2010" when they space-walk from the Leonov to Discovery and Max the Russian Cosmonaut Max assures him all his panic is normal - "Same thing happened to me the first time I did this!" and Curnow asks "You did this before?" and Max grins and says "Never!" Sometimes you need a hand to help you push through...

Hero of Alexandria was making Animatronics using dried cord and weights around 100 BC... that is about 100 - 200 years before Christianity was invented. The United States has only been around for a few hundred years. This was over two thousand years, ago. He wrote his book on making Animatronics based on the works of an existing community and history of pre-existing Animatronics makers at the time... this type of machine is quite old and even was automated (no human interaction - as sand/grain flow was used for timing and the transmission of force at a distance over time.)
