If you're experiencing a low frame rate there is currently a bug with how KZbin plays back 50fps uploads at low quality. Change your playback to 720 or 1080p for smooth playback. Working on a solution. Happy printing!

Maker's Muse where did you find texture.es? I don't have it and i tried copying it from the vid and I wouldn't work. I modified it until it looked the same, but it wouldn't twist like yours did

These kinda remind me of some challenge I saw for Blender that was essentially "use a lot of modifiers on the default cube to make cool stuff"

I was about to observe that this kind of thing is easy in OpenSCAD! BTW semi-colons after braces aren't required.

also I made a mistake with dividing the translation by 2. I should have divided the cube size by 2. I think that's a radius which is odd for a cube.

If you made it a module called rule() and pass in some parameters, then replace the cube() with children() you can come pretty close to the syntax of Structure Synth.

This is a really cool idea! I can imagine that many of these structures could be useful for paneling inside auditoriums or studios where you want to absorb and diffuse sounds.

I used to work with fractal art programs all the time about a decade or slightly more ago. I always wanted to work with them in 3d, especially once I got the printer. Thanks for showcasing this piece of software!

Blender is great at making bats-t stuff like this. Seriously, the proximity function (the proper name slipped my mind, just press O to toggle it) is really interesting to play with. Along with the fractal function in subdivision and high-quality Bridge Edge Loops with twist makes some really interesting stuff.

Wow! Those shapes are awesome man! I've been wanting to try 3D printing for a while now because I see a lot of potential with it. I really want to get a printer and start making stuff now. That software and your shapes really show off what kind of intricacies you can achieve with this medium (just the opinion of someone who knows very little as of yet on 3D printing).

OpenSCAD's been mentioned a bit, but there's also OpenJSCAD which works in the browser. It uses JS so is a nice, easy language - and it can do this kind of thing too - automatically merging all the cubes and exporting direct to STL!

If you have windows 10, the built in 3D builder application merges intersecting mesh objects into a single shell without rounding off the edges on your machine without having to upload it to a cloud service.

Yep windows 10 is awesome for that application but less awesome for many other things so I keep my main PC as windows 7 - at least for as long as it's possible.

Great stuff, i'd not hear of this, i used POV raytracer for a while, 3d fractals etc. I was programming them in BASIC years ago, man that took 8 hours just to get a low-res mandlebrot set. To be able 3D print these is amazing.

I'm a bit late here, but you can do all of the same things in Blender, with the "Array" modifier. I mess around with it all the time to make fractals to fly the camera through, but it's super cool to see printed versions of the same kind of thing!

Awesome find. I have to give that a try and see what i can come up with. It looks like these models would look even more awesome if you put them on a turntable. The different light reflections make it very interesting to look at. Maybe even get some different colored lights to shine on the displayed model from different angles, or see what happens if you use a strobed light synched up to the turning of the model... :)

If I need to make a sculpture for a project or something this will be my go to. Just create something randomly from this, print it and create an existential meaning behind it. Profit or at least a good grade.

Your description of your issue with mathematics was as if you were in my head when I was 16. I never could understand the practical application of advanced mathematics. Later on I realized through the school of hard knocks it is about problem solving with less than complete information based on rules and structure. If my 7th grade algebra teacher could have just said that I think my life may have been very different!

Could you program randomised structures? Like let's say I give a maximum volume / bounding box and a start and end point and then say "fill this volume with tubes of variable size" or something like that? do you know? or is it very restricted to giving all the parameters?

hey! This looks amazing! Would love to see more with that printer at the end. Any idea if it is possible to import paths and lines from another program into this software? i suck at maths too and i have some crazy 2D designs i want to try to make 3D and print :) Being able to import the paths or even just construct them from scratch with lines in this software would be great! :) I might subscribe cos i want more 3D printer vids :)

Because of this software, I now have vgptsd. You have just uncovered and given EVERYONE the ability to build black markers. When the necromorphs start coming, I'm blaming you first. But in all reality, this is an amazing software and wish I knew about it when I was in east, would have made for cool projects there.

The same. I was bad at calculus and solving long equations, but was pretty good at geometry, trigonometry, kind of visual pattern recognition and analysis. Maybe it's consequence of better developed neurons in visual areas of brain.
