Yep, probably slicing a 3d model in mspaint and excelll will be the next step. After that make a 3d printable model with notepad++. --- This might look like a joke, but I actually see some possibilities how this could be done. If you save a picture as black and white .bmp then you can just extract a table of values. Because bmp is not compressed, every pixel is just stored as a value, if you open a black and white bmp picture in a hex editor you will see every white pixel looks like ff and every black one as 00. Simply put: you can rig this up to turn a picture into an excel table (i've done this once before), where every cell corresponds to a pixel, then you could look up the position of every black pixel, safe those coordinates, and put them into a text file. And then don't forget g-code is just a text file with some commands and coordinates, you can handwrite it and make a script to speed it up. Fortunately I have better things to do and i don't use windows, LOL.

That was pretty damn cool. Incredibly professional looking. My brain is having trouble with infinite Z, in my mind the axis that belt is running on is Y. Maybe it's the 45° the gantry is at? But this is twisting my mind.
@discjockeyallen
@discjockeyallen 5 жыл бұрын
at a guess, he is considering the belt the z-axis, the unlimited aspect would be that the belt can be as long the length you can install in your room/shop/buildspace. so yeah, if you had the space/means you could put in a 100' long belt if your shop is big enough. i would expect hot-swapping between multiple print heads next to ensure you do not run out of filament.

It's cool that you can have an "infinite" axis of printing, but one of the highlights of this which wasn't mentioned was the fact that you can just print several parts in one shot. You essentially have a conveyor belt of parts getting pumped out. Mass production would rely on stuff like this and require little to no operator intervention.

so i understand that the real limit is how stable you can keep that belt going for. im assuming that if you wanted something bigger then that belt size you just add more belt and level it with the master belt. Its certainly missing a key feature and that is a way to add on more belt length and an auto level detection to make sure while its printing it doesn't fall off during the printing if doing a very large build.

While making long items is nice I see it helping more with multi printing. Like Ivan Miranda tank project where it could print the thousand treads he needs for the tank. As he does it now it's faster but it takes up all his printers when this could just be left to run on this one while he prints other part and projects.

I mean this technically wouldnt be an unlimited z axis... What i mean by that is yes the axis can go on forever but at a certain point the weight of the part would eventually cause it to fall off once it reaches a certain distance past the pivot point... So in theory it does have an infinte z but the parts printed would still have a limited extension do to the weight diffrential... Fun idea though
@NAK3DDesigns
@NAK3DDesigns 5 жыл бұрын
As long as you support the print on rollers or a table as it leaves the belt you can offset the weigh differential in theory till the part just gets too heavy to push... But so far I've stacked 12 kilos on the belt with no issue in movement..

What is the idea of tilting the vertical axis or the machine, why you don't print normally but the Z is infinity, the slicer should slice the object vertically instead of horizontally, so the printer prints each one-centimetre horizontally and continue vertically, then continue horizontally till the end of the object.

Is this possible to continuously load prints in a slicer/ printer software? if you had a queue for parts, then as you got more it would add the parts on the belt as it goes, essentially non stop printing.. This would be great for universities (like mine) that have a dedicated print lab that prints for student projects. We have to constantly setup/ reset machines..
@tillthiemann6448
@tillthiemann6448 4 жыл бұрын
This has a huge potential for automation. You could just print objects and the finished products pop right off at the end of the belt. Theoretically you could just keep on printing. No need to stop the machine to take the parts out.

I still don't get how a infinite z works tho, doesnt the print fall off once it reaches the edge? Does it just stick in the belt? Or it prints front to back instead of bottom to top?

Robert Pirlot I crashed fusion a few times and the only common thing I could come up with between them is that I had chrome open in the background. Not really sure if that was really the issue, but I haven’t had a crash since I started making sure to close it before opening fusion.

Can someone explain why infinite belt printers are 45 degrees? I'm not really getting the reasoning behind that
@johncochran8497
@johncochran8497 5 жыл бұрын
It's so the entire cross section of the printed object is accessible. The belt is the Z-axis. It moves in one direction only and makes a single step per layer. Of course, you'll need some means of supporting the object as it comes off the end of the belt. As for it printing at an angle, that's both to allow for enough support material to be laid down, and to provide access to the entire cross section. Let's assume that instead of the 45 degree include, it was perpendicular to the belt. Now ask yourself "How can the nozzle extrude plastic onto the belt, and also to any point in the cross section of the model without having a collision with either the belt, or the already extruded portion of the model?"

The X and Y plane is tilted at a 45 degree angle, so the belt is the Z constantly moving away from the nozzle.

How's the layer adhesion & 1st layer "squish"? I also saw some issues w/ the coin being printed at an angle. Big improvement to the concept since the first video I saw last year that used something like kapton film.

First layer is getting better as I learn how to dial it in.. As for the poor print quality of the coin it was being printed with a .8 nozzle at .4 layer height in spiral mode and I ran out of time to tweek the Gcode.. Not bad for 3 an hour though in my opinion..

If u start printing something long like a massive sword how long would it be before the weight off the end would make it fall off. Basically what’s the length limit assuming there are is nothing supporting it as it goes off the end
@3DPrintingNerd

That depends on the material, the infill, and the speed at which you are printing. It is best, in the case of a super long sword or something, to support it :)

TL;DR It's so it actually has access to the entire cross section. If it were to be perpendicular to the belt, the nozzle wouldn't be able to get to the belt and everything above it without collision with either the belt, or the already printed part of the model.
