3D Procedural Anime/Stylized Smoke and Dust Explosions RnD (Houdini)

This is a WIP tool I've been working on in Houdini to create Anime/2D style explosions.
The tool is fully automated and no keyframes were done here. No simulations, solvers or DOPs either. Purely SOPs.
All parameters are promoted to control directionality, velocity, shape, density, shading, etc.
The goal will be to add additional features for heat, dissipation, collisions and then explore if this can be used easily in shots. So far the results are promising.
Tutorial may follow once I'm done exploring this.

That looks really nice man! Yeah I'd be interested in seeing how you're doing this. I experimented with the toon shaders in Houdini with actual simulations, but I could never get a great looking result like this from it

Thank you! The background was hand-painted to match the style of 90's DBZ, yes :) You can see how it was utilized in my "Goku Transforming" demo in my channel.

This is insane, Please tell us howw I have a feeling it starts with directional vectors and then animate the width across curveu with some noise, u then turn it to vdb i suppose, but im sure you have some magic going on there that i cant wrap my head around, gradient sdf or dialate maybe ?

the animation is kinda standard , its the shader which makes the big difference

There's actually nothing special about the shader either. None of this reinvents the wheel and anyone can pull this off by just observing and using tools that are already there. The only thing that might be special here is that it's procedural and dynamically responds to parameters without a solver.
