Great review. For me, this is one of those 3D presentations that I think needs time to grow on you. The first time watching the film, I found myself often wondering why they even bothered to make it 3D. But after a few more viewings, like you, I came to appreciate all the depth and detail within the frame and how well they all work together to make the film’s world ultimately feel three-dimensional. Nowadays, it’s a film me and my family have to pull out every time spooky season rolls around. It’s honestly a highly underrated animated flick. Creepy stop motion films are already niche enough as it is. And like you said, it doesn’t help that Frankenweenie seems to live in Nightmare Before Christmas’s shadow. Still, it’s none the less charming and quirky, and I’m glad to see someone besides me is getting the word out about it.

0:30 we saw it in IMAX 3D. Pretty dull story and 3D. I think I own a copy and yet haven’t ever played it.

@ fair question. It’s been quite a while but i remember the disappointment well. We took pix of my godson before going in. And the logos were very visible in them. So, I’m confident it was via IMAX 3D. The outing was more fun than the specific movie or its 3D. None of us talked about the flick or 3D experience afterward. By-(unfair?) comparison, I was humming “what’s this?!” all the way home after tNBC. You’ve got me mildly considering a rewatch but I’m not looking forward to it.
