This is actually my favorite "Jurassic" movie. I still do love the first one, especially after the conversion to 3D, and the story and the characters are definitely better. But the CGI and the action is superior in jurassic world, and you get to see the dinosaurs more on screen, without overdoing it.

Thanks for the review! I loved this movie and thought the 3-D conversion was quite good indeed; my expectations were exceeded in all departments. Wonderful cast too. One hell of a fucking great time. Sucks that we won’t see a 3-D Blu of the sequels.

Wow. Really enthusiastic endorsement, so far, from you. I enjoy it now but I was initially very disappointed by the 3D. I never figure out why that was the case then but not now…although I typically watch it via the AVP now. So, at least there was a hardware discrepancy to try to account for the differing viewing experiences. Baffling. Anyway, back to the video review…

We love over-the-top reach-outs! Love this movie, and the 3-D is phenomenal. Also, I’m surprised you didn’t mention the portrayal of Mike Hammer by Ralph Meeker in the all-time classic KISS ME DEADLY (1955); he’s my fave Hammer. But I think that Biff Elliot does quite well in the role, and the supporting cast is aces. Plus you’ve got outstanding noir cinematography by the great John Alton and music from the great Franz Waxman; I think this film is severely underrated, and am so glad we have it on eye-popping 3-D Blu.

I discovered this channel of yours that talks about old and new films made in 3D. I write from Italy (dvd e blu ray only zone B) and I am a great enthusiast, thanks to your information I discover films that I did not know, too bad that the fashion has gone out of fashion at the cinema! Do you know anything about whether there is a 3D blu ray of Michael Jackson, am I talking about "Captain EO" or "Thriller" in 3D version...free zone A-B-C? Thanks Flavio

We're unlikely to see the Jackson 3D stuff unless it's tied in to some new 3D hardware Sony wants to push. I did have a chance to see Thriller in 3D when it had a brief theatrical release as a pre-show to a Jack Black movie.

I ask you one more question, why aren't your 3D blu ray distributed in free zone ABC? Is it an expensive process to standardize the systems between NTSC and PAL? Thanks

@@mr.belvedere6260 It was mainly a way to allow countries to legally sell blu-rays at a local rate and protect the US market from those cheap imports. It also helped with selling rights in different parts of the world.

Another superb review. I think the law of diminishing returns was sadly applicable to the 3D as this series progressed, but what a great start. As much as I look forward to your next video, I do hope you manage to give yourself a few days off and have a relaxing and enjoyable Christmas. (PS I've been meaning to ask for a few years now, is your pronunciation of "Foliage" standard in your part of the world?! I live in an area that has lots of immigrants and am occasionally asked where I am from because my accent doesn't sound local to them. I spent years in speech therapy trying to work out a severe lisp so I tend to err between pronounced phonetics and back-country slurring. So, I get funny looks too. Though its amusing to imagine my flat-footed speaking shifting the King's English.

You have to really respect the teams of fx people involved in this level of conversion - the time taken over every shot must have been massive. But then I guess that's why these types of films would have had conversion budgets of $5M-$10M or more. I guess having so much cgi also helps as presumably the conversion team would have the 3d models to work with. Its only a matter of time before AI gets to this level though, maybe we'll all have a switch on our holographic TVs to automatically convert anything to 3d in one click.

As a horror fan I enjoyed this one - I prefer this kind of creepy, eerie atmospheric type of horror over gore, and I thought the 3d actually was used quite inventively.

Seems like you enjoyed this one quite a bit. Not sure if you watched the previous Paranormal Activity movies, but from what I read up, the first one was the best. I personally don’t know about this one. I’m also not big on the horror genre because like you said, most of them just carry a depressing atmosphere. I’m a bit of a Philippians 4:8 kind of guy. But I do enjoy a good ghost story or two. For my money, my favorite 3D ghost movie (on Christmas) has to be A Christmas Carol from 2009, still my personal favorite adaptation even if a bit flawed.

Superb review, as always. Looking forward to finally getting an official release of this one, which I thought was a massive improvement over any of the Michael Bay Transformers films. (Although, to be fair to Bay, the 3D in his films was often absolutely stunning, reference quality stuff.)

1:34 I celebrate this movie, despite never have seen it in its entirety. Like Full Metal Jacket, I enjoy the beginning and then I can take it or leave it from there.
