My goal is to take a .ply to an stl in meshlab so my fabricator can carve the below knee model out of a foam blank. Why did you export to meshmixer? Could you have just used meshlab for your end result? Could I just use meshlab for my end result (goal)?
@mazandattero6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. I moved into meshmixer because I am more comfortable with that software. I know little about Meshlab and there is a good chance you could just do it in Meshlab without going to meshmixer. Sorry for any confusion.

Hi, how long did it take for you to export the stl file? Mine is taking a very long time. Much thanks for the tutorial!

I don't remember it taking very long, but then the files weren't that big either. Possibly your point cloud is more robust with data?

Meshlab won't let me open .ply file, it doesn't see it in the file directory :(

Hi and thank you for the video, do you happen to know if the file has some limitations to import? I have a Racap scene with 12 gb of volume and I have converted from .rcp to .pts. I am having errors while trying to import it into Meshlab. Thanks prior!
@mazandattero5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for posting your comment. Unfortunately I haven't used it enough to know if there's a limitation on file size. I assume the only limitations would be related to the hardware processing the file.

Open the file with text editor, rename the original file to .txt. If you check how the file has been compiled (comma separated, xyz etc) than import the .txt file into Meshlab and a popup screen will appear how to import the file. This works for me when .pts files won't work.

I dont get it, you say this will work with the app capture but you never mention how to convert the .usdz file, because that is what capture makes. Can you explain?
@mazandattero4 жыл бұрын
Not exactly. I don't remember there being a .usdz file type. I've only used this software to do what I did in the video. Made the video so I wouldn't forget to repeat the same thing.

I have LAS file, how will I convert it to .ply file ?
@mazandattero3 жыл бұрын
I only know how to do what is shown in the video.
@jessescott97043 жыл бұрын
There is a free program call CloudCompare that will accept LAS and LAZ files. I forget the exact procedure to output an XYZ file for importing into Meshlab. It really depends if it is a single LAS or multiples. The model I'm working with has hundreds of LAZ files but you can import them all at the same time. I'd like to be more help but I've forgotten the whole procedure, but you can definitely find it on google.

I don't know if Meshmixer is open source. I do know it's owned by Autodesk.

type "poisson" in google translate and set the language to French. That's how you should pronounce it, just saying.
