For sure, I think a further top 5... or more video is due to cover those more advanced uses.
@joshmaceachern73837 жыл бұрын
To reduce polygons, select the model in the object browser, then hit CTRL/CMD+A to select all the triangles. Then there are two options that will do what you want in different ways. Edit->reduce will reduce the polygons just by trying to subtract them where it can. Edit->remesh with a negative density will also work to reduce polygons.

Yes I'm specifically interested in how to make support materials in meshmixer. Also I'm confused as to why meshes seem to be a lower quality when they are imported into mesh mixer
@MakersMuse7 жыл бұрын
They won't be lower quality, but your other software might be 'smoothing' out the triangles. Meshmixer has the option to do it too, but I turn it off as 3D Printers will always print with the triangles and no smoothing. Hit "W" to see the wireframe. All stl files are made up of triangles! It's not the best method for printing curved objects...
@TheMainCharacter7 жыл бұрын
Maker's Muse ah. Huh. I tried to import a low poly elephant I made in Blender the other day (many different triangles and sharp edges.) Good tips! I use the slicing a lot. Also, the scaling is cool since you can enter an overall size along one axis and it can proportionally scale. I like MeshMixer but it's interface is frustrating, with many features effectively hidden by strange interaction modes. For instance, using arrow keys to change snapping increments as you mention. That's crazy! The big ones for me are alignment, slicing, and supports, the latter of which is its killer feature IMO. Happy printing!

Until recently (learned some fusion 360) I did almost everything in 3DSmax. STLs are not the raw file but max can do pretty much everything with them need to edit detail just open up max and move vertices, need to take a watermark off? do the same thing, need to scale it can do it in max, booleans can do them in max. I'm surprised I don't see max talked about AT ALL in 3dp its like it dont even exist. It can cut or also join objects to prevent the shelling issues as well. However after looking at the craftware vid I decided something like that would be good for 3dp quick cutting into pieces for 3d printing them right away without having to be too tedious to get what you want. I'm sure this program has a niche.

Is there a way to plane cut but leave keyed shapes or pins so when they are glued, they'd fit exactly?
@michaelfargo25646 жыл бұрын
Angus, is there a way to take a flat rectangle and "Bend" it into an ARC shape? The Bend going along the length so the thickness remains "flat" to a table... then the two parallel length-edges now become an outside radius and an inside radius? (so maybe the ends are no longer parallel to each other but now like 60 degrees) Then that arc segment could be repeated/copied as 6 pcs to make a circle? I can't figure this out but I'm sure MeshMixer can handle this. I honestly think you're one of the best with tutorial videos!! Please advise.

Please make a how-to video on how to add color to a single color object (stl file). I've watched a few videos but they all use well designed models. The one's I seem to pick have nothing but problems. Select a region, Face Groups, Generate Complex, Split Complex, or maybe I am missing something somewhere. Export generates several files, not 2 or 3. Anyway, if you could do a video on adding color, that'd be awesome. Both mixing head and a muti-material version, which I think is pretty much the same thing.

thanks and I have heard that meshmixer smooths curve transitions in a esh but I have no clue if it does or how to do it if it does, basically what I mean is for instance I made a simple cylinder in 3dsmax, even if I set edges to a ridiculous 200 and mesh smooth to 4, when I print I do not get a nice smooth curve, the curve is made up of small flat polys. is there a filter or tool in meshmixer that can smooth those out so there are no flat polys in a curve? without using that smoothing brush that affects every poly around it and makes the cylinder look like a molten pancake!

I bought a obj Modell online and want it hollow for SLA printing. Meshmixer can read obj and export it as stl file but there is the problem : the obj file consists of several parts , all already hollow and with special " joints" for printing them separately but i don't want that. Must i "drill" holes in every top, middle and bottom piece to let the resin flow out, or is there a way to fuse the visible outside shell and get rid of the inside membranes?

Hi Angus, Yes, you're absolutely right, MeshMixer is a wonderfully powerful 3D mesh sculpting tool! I just love creating 3D objects with it, however, I seem to have difficulty trying to access the Print options icon. When I click on it, this message is displayed on the screen : "The current printer does not have software associated with it. Go to Printer Properties to set up software.". I don't yet own a 3D printer, I just want to send an STL file to Shapeways, Sculpteo, or iMaterialise. I opened the MeshMixer Printer Properties dialog box, but I really don't know what to type in as links or file locations. I follow lots of your Makers Muse videos. They're quite informative as well as enjoyable to learn from. I would be grateful to you, Angus, if you could please tell me: How do I solve this problem of not being able to print from MeshMixer? Thank you very much. Earl
