I think we should think of the future and how much it will kill or displace animals. We depend on wildlife and if we blast these extremely loud cannon we can hurt them. It's like me coming to your house and turning on a plane engine every ten seconds for the rest of your life. The noise is extremely loud and it does major damage to sea life.

Have you ever been on a seismic vessel and witnessed the "blasts"? I have seen large fish swimming within a few meters of the seismic air guns. I've seen whales breach within a few 10's of m of active guns. Seismic sources at sea put a limited amount of energy into the environment, far less than a typical ocean-going vessel would. Marine mammals, fish and turtles are easily able to swim away if they found the sound upsetting.

Remember the bat you referred to in the first part of the video? Animals also live in the sea in case whoever made this video didn't know that. And those animals rely on sonar and acoustics as well for survival, which can be permanently destroyed by seismic blasts like those used for testing. This is an important point missed by the film that this is highly controversial and extremely dangerous to wildlife.

How informative and how distinctly reductive this explanation is. Let's just focus on the need(greed) to acquire more oil and gas, ignore the pending peak oil crisis and the fact that other more sustainable sources of energy like solar and wind power exist. Don't talk about the devastating effects of fracking on the environment, the multiple carcinogenic chemicals used or the inevitable hazards of polluting aquifers and fragile eco systems. Let's just focus on economic profit (for a select few of course) and ignore the environmental repercussions for future generations. Who gives a fuck right?

+siadragonfly3 plastic is made through petroleum, a lot of chemicals that you use are made from petroleum, oil and gas companies care about the environment by: 1. purifying waste water. 2. drilling horizontally so they don't need to cut forests. 3. minimize pollution in their factories as much as possible. 4. not drilling in areas that the marine life require to survive. the reason for pollution is not oil and gas companies, but the people who keep wasting oil and gas like idiots.
