Nice, I would have included in the simulation a figure of the town of Casso to show wave went very close almost jumping over it.

There is big rock just opposite sliding mass. That saved Casso from destruction. I was there in 2015, it is quite impressive to see that scenery. Very nice countryside, but sa place knowing how many lost lives.

Need to capture the height of the wave over the dam - I hear that if it had been during daytime it would have obscured the area below

@@qdaniele97 one of the finest example of Italian engineering... and corruption. High levels of the company that built that dam knew there was problems. One of their employees died on the dam in order to try to save the people down the valley. Slowing down the process of empty the lake and moving gradually the flank of the mountain all by himself. Yet he did not succeded. He died as an hero of Italy. But the dam is still intact. It now hold an entire mountain of rocks.

@@bladecutler9092 that's the claim of Wikipedia in Vajont Dam article: "water overtopped the dam in a wave of 250 metres" and "The wall of water that overtopped the dam by 250 metres (820 ft)[1] and destroyed this village and all nearby villages on 9 October 1963 would have obscured virtually all of the blue sky in this photo" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vajont_Dam

@@bladecutler9092 I'm equally confused: Wikipedia states that the wave reached 250 m above the dam itself, whereas in this simulation, it seems to only spill over it. Of course, the drop of the water is still approximately 250 m, so impressive and destructive in any case, but Wikipedia suggests an additional height of 250 m over the dam. What are we misunderstanding?

@@wiesdevos24 okay what you need to understand is the scale of everything. The scale is the only thing that matters. So when you are watching the video representation you have to understand the scale model. It is very clear to see that the digital Recreation is very precise.

I thought the landslide originated in the far end of the lake, not in the immediate vicinity of the dam. And the wave crossed the lake, so by the time it reached the dam it was already huge. If water had only spilled over the dam as pictured here I don't think it would have been powerful enough to cause so much damage.
