3D VHD Demonstration Disc (1986 High-Quality 60FPS JVC Victor Promotional Video For VR)

This is an official 3D demonstration disc for the Japan-market-only Victor VHD video format. The VHD format was the only analog consumer format to natively support 3-D video. By taking advantage of the interlaced analog 480i video system (Each 60Hz frame provides an 30Hz image to each eye), the VHD 3-D format was compatible with any standard analog TV with the use of synchronized LCD shutter glasses. Various game systems, such as the Nintendo Famicom/NES & Sega Master System/MARK III, also used the same 3D system for their 3D expansions. In fact, the LCD glasses are interchangeable between VHD systems and compatible game systems.
This disc was obtained from the estate of an ex-Victor employee and was likely used as a technical demonstration by Victor to potential/current VHD dealers. The disc itself is completely unmarked & includes a couple sheets of information regarding how to connect a separate 3D expansion module to the Victor 7XXX series VHD players. It is strongly suggested that this was a technical demo produced before any commercial 3D releases were available to the market.
Over the course of this 4 1/2 minute video, a number of different 3D scenes are presented such as CG, a tree with cherry blossoms, a flock of flamingos running, a train passing by, some unusually aggressive fishing lines, and more. Watching in 3D, the impact of the additional dimension can be clearly & quickly seen making this quite the successful (and quirky) demonstration disc!
This video was converted to be native 3D for KZbin which means it should be able to watched using any standard 3D or VR device such as any Oculus/VIVE products, PS VR, 3D smart TVs, Google Cardboard, or even standard red-blue anaglyph glasses. NOTE: Some devices may not support 4:3 3D video. If you'd rather watch in 2D, just hit the gear and change to 2D mode. This video was uploaded in high enough resolution to ensure clarity in either 3D or 2D.
In addition, please watch in 60FPS for proper time alignment of each eye; the left eye should appear with a 1/59.97 second delay from the right eye.

Fun fact: This appears to be one of the few, if only, 3D VHD discs using the older "shiny" VHD logo instead of the later "CG" VHD logo, further reinforcing the strong possibility that this was a preproduction disc produced before any commercial 3D VHD discs were available.

This was played using a Victor HD-9500 VHD player and converted from interlaced 3D to standard SBS 3D.
This is a REELY EXCLUSIVE upload! This footage is from the only known prototype recording.
NOTE: Simple frame interpolation was used to increase the frame rate from 29.97fps to 59.94fps to each eye. This makes viewing generally less strenuous.
