I started 3D printing in 2014 with a terrible machine, got frustrated, and gave up. Nerf modding (Especially Out of Darts) got me back into 3D printing in a big way, we really need more collabs with Luke!

Oh man I recently found Out Of Darts KZbin channel and I was hooked. What he is doing with all the mods is amazing. Seeing the he has grown to such a big 3d printing business is inspiring. Digging through my sons collection of Nerf blasters to pick one to modify now :) First time I saw his prototype video for that big hopper blaster my jaw just dropped! I need one of those in my life lol

If you ever get the chance, I'd also get in touch with Captain Slug. He's basically been the forefather to the entire 3d printed blaster sub-hobby. Slug has made lever action blasters, pump action blasters, elastic driven blasters and tons more.

Went to the web site and did a search for vacuum or suction and got no result for merch so is there any plans on making a vacuum to suck up all those foam balls (filtering out things like lint/dirt/sand) back into the container or something automatic like a a small swarm of pre-programmed roomba-like creations that cleans up an indoor playing area for you (on a flat surface like concrete)?

Resin SCAR (String Centered Auto Rotating) barrels would probably negate the need for strings, allowing you to print the part in one go without major post processing (other than the regular resin procedures. The resin Jupiter might be more brittle, but it should hold up. Would love to see it!

I actually talked to Luke about this- it adds more parts and automation than needed, and can create some other issues with bed adhesion for some parts. That and all of his printers are direct from Prusa himself...

I believe he was working with a manufacturer (or someone) on some high strength resins and doing some prototyping. He did a video, but it sounded pretty early-stage.

Great video, I am going to be getting my first 3d printer soon because my hobby is nerf. I'm nearly there with the saving but not sure which printer to get, my budget is £200 to £300 (pounds, I am British) so I have plenty of options. The Nerf community is pretty great like that. I'd say it's slightly less fun than paintball or airsoft, but the trade off, almost nobody in the hobby has a toxic attitude. Everyone's just there to have fun and be ridiculous.

The top rail does not “improve” this blaster. The rear rail has a built in riser. So it compensates for longer shots and dart drop…

while I was putting together the open rc f1 car. I used resin parts and noticed that the resin parts. Were smaller and wouldn't hold screws. Like the screw would just keep spinning. It would be interesting to see how a Jupiter blaster out of resin would be like.

Resin does shrink while curing, so you will need to take that into account when printing. Usually the resin's spec sheet will tell you the approximate shrinkage rate. Normal resin is also rather hard and brittle, so you can't just drive in a self-tapping screw. In my opinion, it's a bad choice for making something like a blaster. Maybe tough resins will work.

So, my daughter and Luke each had a rolling golf ball catching style thing, and rolled it around the parking lot. I really got the feeling this wasn't the first time there was a large amount of Rival balls needing to be picked up in the parking lot :)

@@jamesmatthew2677 in fact they just released their first injection molded product: that huge magazine used in the Lynx. OOD just published a video about it and discussed why it's just their first, and it basically comes down to injection molding taking a long time to pay for itself, but also sometimes being the only way to make a reliable product.

A resin SCAR is about the only thing that makes sense really. The weight/strength of resin really doesnt lend to the impact of the blaster itself, IMO.

@@3DPrintingNerdI live in Sweden. There are, but it is not often you see children or young people using it, something rifle-like that shoots arrows / balls, it is very unusual. Playing with toys, running around and shooting at each other has never been something big here in the Nordic countries Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. These are not facts but how I experience it regarding these games But your channel is still one of the better in 3D printing, following every episode you broadcast. Almost always with interesting content.
