I'm amazed that it is possible to replace the port without even taking the motherboard out of the shell, nice job! Unfortunately many of the replacement parts are like this or have a very cheap feeling...and some can even damage your console. I once replaced the shell of a DS lite and the replacement shell didn't align well and broke a small filter on the motherboard which was a pain to get a replacement for.

It worked just fine for me I did have to trim the shell a little tho but idc it's fixed and good as new hell I can't even tell there was anything wrong with it.

The problem with this part is it was made for the New 3ds and New 3ds XL. It's not made for the older versions. Unfortunately, I can't find anywhere the part made for the older versions, only for the New ones.

@@krxterm1 I'm sorry, but no. Ds Lite have a unique charger, only fits on it. Dsi and all 3ds family uses the same charger indeed, but the connector itself are not interchangeable. The OG 3ds connector will not fit in the OG 2ds, for example. I think that 2ds, 2ds XL and DSi uses the same connector (I THINK), but the rest does not.

This is the issue I'm running into myself, so many replica parts out their for the newer models of 3ds but none for the original. I don't understand why, none of them seat right on the 3ds so in my eyes they're just junk replacements for the original. If I can find parts to repair my old psp3000, something that has been long discontinued, I don't see how I can't find replacement parts for the original 3ds. God it's frustrating.

Thanks for the video. This got my son's 3DS working again. FYI to anyone reading, you probably don't need to do all this with the flux and the solder braid and all that shenanigans. Just resoldering the connection of your current port will probably fix it.

Yea 3DS screws suck, they're easy to strip and break imo.

Like many stated here before, it's for the newer models. They realize how shitty SMD(system mounted design) is where the charging port only relies on the strength of the solder joints + some glue. Clap clap genius. The newer charging ports are actually through-hole, meaning they are secured and latches down the pcb for much added durability, hence the added height.

I really suggest getting an ifixit tech pro toolkit it comes with bits small enough for the 3ds and you have a good handle so you can apply a lot of torque never rounding screws anymore

Thank you this repair actually worked for me I did have to trim a little bit of the casing to get the replacement port to fit but after that it fits and works great I was even able to get the case fully back on with no problems after the trim so I'm very happy and content with this repair. P.s. I'm a kid with no experience fixing things or soldering this was my first time if I can do it so can you so don't let it intemidate you!

My 3ds is an absolute nightmare to charge, i have to put it upside down, put the charger all the way in, and then pull it a little while doing some force to the upper left side of the 3ds (while it's upside down) an then when the light appears i have to put the charger entrance on a surface higher than the 3ds to make it stable, i have the cradle but the metal connectors on the 3ds doesn't work. i have to replace this part soon.

Hmm. If I couldn't find the an original replacement and had to use a 3DS XL part like you did in this video, would it be better to just buy a battery charging unit, a second battery and just swap them when they get low? This way I can keep playing without being tethered and I do not have to worry about the part being incorrect or should I bite the bullet and try the repair? Edit: Also, is it possible to charge through the pads on the charging port? And if so how? Also, is it possible to solder the power connector directly to the 3DS. Yes, it would have a permanent cord but it would work is my theory?

it’s a more complex process that requires new wires, not terribly hard from what i’ve seen but much more complex

@@SunnyCress i have gotten some custom made USB-C port kits. they work. there are those made for a DS and for a 3DS.
