In this 2-part tutorial series, we explore a method of spawning procedural actors from birthed actors, i.e. animated butterfly actors that spawn from bomb actors.
In this Part 1 video, we create our butterfly character by rigging a simple mesh, and assigning the rigged mesh to a TyActor object. Then, we attribute a simple looping animation to the butterfly actor to simulate wing movement. In the last part of the video, we set up a simple test-flow to visualize the butterfly flight movement using directional speed and a force operator.
Part 2 video is here: • 3ds Max + TyFlow TUTOR...

Hey kyle, great tutorial! I was wondering how I could setup proper collisions for the butterflies wings that are made out of the plane. Right now I have a lot of butterflies but the wing planes are clipping into my objects that they are flying towards etc. How could I prevent the butterflies from clipping into my objects? cheers:)

Great tutorial! But how do i make the black of the planes go away when i render them?

Good question! You'll have to make an opacity map for your butterfly wing material. It's simple to do in photoshop.. basically, the background must be pure black, and the area where the wings are should be pure white. Then you'd save that black/white image from photoshop as a jpg, and add it to your wing material under the opacity map slot. When you render, the black parts of the map should be transparent.
