So this vehicle has gotten a lot of attention on the TL forums on Facebook so i decided to make a video explaining how it’s maintained at such a high mileage. It’s just basic maintenance but there are 3 secret ingredients to keep it going this long.
-timing belt kits
-coolant flushes (never let car run hot)
-frequent oil changes
-frequent transmission fluid changes + filter

@@pushhrodd01Yep, the only other issue I ever dealt with, as far as like every other 2000+ J35, is leaking engine seals; particularly like the oil pump and/or VTEC solenoid gaskets. The oil pan or valve cover gasket(s), or rear main seal, for example, could also fail, but it’s not very common. Aside from that, the weak point in these, is the automatic transmission, even for the 07-08 models and newer. Some people like to stick to the timeline in the manual, not realizing that tons of other factors come into play; thus, making it much more reasonable/rational to change your trans fluid/gear oil earlier. The manual transmissions always seem to have a 3rd gear TSB or something for the 2nd gear, but as far as I’ve known, those defects are not very common. Typically, those are manufacturing defects and if discovered, are usually fixed by then, under warranty (you would hope). There’s a lot more than goes into the manual transmission (less parts compared to the automatic trans, obviously). However, they’re a lot more robust than their automatic counterparts, and for good reason. Maintaining/servicing the manual models, if not beat on, will have you easily surpassing 200k+ maybe even on the ORIGINAL factory clutch at that. Lol

Have a daily driver '05 TL 6spd MT runs like a champ @ 334,000 miles. Like you said, every 3K get the oil changed and I am doing every 75K water pumps and timing. Changed clutch at 240,000 and I can still get rubber shifting into 2nd with VSA off. Everything on mine still works as well and only thing that had an issue was the HF link module dead amp draw so I disconnected it. K&N Typhoon Air filter. Keep it rolling and like many others have said, best car I have ever owned. Might need to go get that Maaco paint job myself. Only has 1 rust spot rear passenger wheel well and it is bubbled. Live in Northern Illinois and the car was originally a Wisconsin car. Do not know what paint Honda uses, but it lasts. Had an '06 Odyssey with zero paint issues as well. Acura/Honda only from here on out.

I have a 07 Acura TL. I recently got the car at 175k miles and its at 178k now. I changed the engine oil, spark plugs, new tires, engine coolant and the water pump with new timing belt. The ONLY issue I wonder about is the transmission fluid. I checked and its a sort of dark red which I know means that it should be changed at that point. But I'm scared because everyone around me tells me that its better to not change the fluid because in many instances the new fluid will ruin the transmission. At this point i think its a 50/50 chance that if I change the fluid, it will either help the car or I will have problems I didn't have before. And btw I have no idea of when the fluid was last changed, it had several owners.

You cant change the fluids too much or too often. Do a brake flush every year as well.
@isnowyazn
@isnowyazn Жыл бұрын
Why not? I changed the trans fluid in the AT’s religiously, to avoid the common automatic trans issues. With the MT models, I even began to change the manual trans fluid/gear oil in those pretty often as well. For me, I tend to change the trans fluid/gear oil with every engine oil change. Some might call it excessive, but with the kind of driving I do, I find it to be almost an unavoidable necessity. Yeah, these cars weren’t made to be beat on like hell from the factory fully stock, but I’ve done what I can to make the car maintenance last.

Transmission fluid is suppose be changed once a year lol not every 3 months 😂
@isnowyazn
@isnowyazn 4 ай бұрын
@@kennethrodriguez328 I mean, if you put together what I said, you shouldn’t be changing your motor oil every 3 months, unless you’re driving 5000+ miles. I normally change my engine oil like in between every 6000-8000 miles, on average. That’s about once a year for me, unless I drive 15k+ miles or more in that year period (not mentioning track driving and other harsh conditions). Unless you track drive your car and whatnot, cause some track people change all their fluids and oils every other super hard track day(s). Even with that said, if you’re a person that bangs their gears (manual) or just beats the shit outta the car, your trans fluid/gear oil and engine oil aren’t gonna stay the exact same with every single oil change; assuming you aren’t a robot. Lol And for example, if you had something like a 6th gen (98-02) Honda Accord V6, or something closer to the Honda/Acura V6’s of that era; you’d most definitely be changing your ATF with every engine oil change or before that. Those transmissions like to randomly fail at any given time, and it’s in their defective engineering/manufacturing by nature. You can build/upgrade them as much as possible, but sometimes even changing ATF early or not driving hard all the time, still doesn’t save it… But that’s a totally different case. All comes down to how hard and often you drive the car, and how safe you want to keep your shit. 3 months vs 1 year of driving could vastly differ in a countless number of ways; hence it should be based on the mileage, and not the timeline.
