Very entertaining, I love these off the path affordable homes. I live in Texas, and Texas has loads of small cities with super affordable homes - especially if you are willing to put in sweat equity on a fixer. The trick is to shop in overlooked rural cities near a metro area. In 2015 I bought an 864 sq. ft. prairie ranch house with an attached 624 sq. ft. garage/shop on a 1/3 acre for $11,000 about 15 miles outside of Lubbock. There are $200k to $500k homes in my area - but I still regularly see sub $30k homes for sale on a regular basis, some even down in the $10k range.
