Monsters University can easily be relatable to those who are exactly like Mike. Sometimes you can try your hardest and put in years of work and still fall short of your goals, because there are some things in life that you'll never be able to do. But that doesn't mean you can't find where your true talent lies somewhere else.
@SpacialRend77 ай бұрын
This movie became very relatable to me. Just like Mike, I was told by my school superiors that I wouldn’t succeed in the class programs. However, that motivated me to prove them wrong and I definitely did prove them wrong, for I have finished college with an Associate and Bachelor’s degree! So, mission accomplished!
@SprayInk-Kreatïv-Nouveau7 ай бұрын
In primary school, my teachers apparentely didn't have an obligation to follow rules when grading students, they could give you a 6 just because they did not like your accent, I am 100% sure that was not legal. A teacher told me he would make sure I didn't pass just because he didn't like me, you can't imagine the scandal that was generated when all the moms found out about that.
It is a nice story but this movie wasn’t about to become successful to prove them wrong. We seen a lot of good movies about the MC to prove them wrong despite their disadvantages. However this movie just defines you that you’re are a failure but doesn’t mean to applied every program. You have other options that you can be successful just accepting the impossibility from the past.
@SpacialRend77 ай бұрын

One thing I love about this movie besides it being Mike's moment that while Mike untimely failed to be scary, he ended up being very funny and as revealed at the end of Monster's Inc, laugh power is much more powerful than screams and Mike excels at being funny. @FlameHeart30637 ай бұрын
I love Heartscrabble as a antagonist! She's not a villain, but she is the opposing force to Mike and Sully. She's never wrong in her statements. She's never belittling Mike. She's stating the absolute truth: Mike is not scary in look or mannerisms. You can study all you want but that doesn't make you qualified for work in that field. It's like a guy with no legs trying to become an Olympic runner; it's not likely in the slightest. (Sure there are your real world exceptions, but the sentiment still stands.) And in the end they did something that not many monsters had ever done. They surprised and terrified her, and she grew as a monster because of it. Great antivillain right there

10:05 A113 can be seen on the door. A113 is seen in every Pixar movie (except Monsters Inc) and is a reference to the classroom that many Pixar animators were taught in, I think it's cool that they put A113 as a classroom number in this movie. 10:56 In other countries, the letters on the cupcakes were replaced by smiley faces due to the fact that it would take too many cupcakes to translate it in other languages. 11:38 The winds of change poster is a reference to the first movie when Randall says to Mike "do you hear that? it's the winds of change" 12:33 A Pizza Planet Truck can be seen parked next to the frat boy's house. The Pizza Planet Truck can be seen in every Pixar movie except The Incredibles. 27:30 You can see the Pixar ball as one of the toxic toys painted on the wall. 47:18 The toy dinosaur seen in the simulator room is a dinosaur from The Good Dinosaur. Many Pixar movies have a future Easter egg to their next movie. The Good Dinosaur was supposed to release in 2014 but was delayed to 2015. Even though Inside Out was technically the next Pixar movie after Monsters University, The Good Dinosaur was also a project in development. 48:34 In the first movie, when Randall kicked Sulley out of the room dangling, and almost made him fall to his death before Boo saves him, he says "you don't have any idea how long I've wanted to do that Sullivan" may be a reference to his humiliation in this movie when Sulley beats him at the Scare Games. 1:01:47 John Ratzenberger comes back to voice the Abominable Snowman in this movie. The fact that the little girl Mike tried to scare didn't scream and crap herself, because if you use humans as a baseline, and de-pixarfy Mike to the same degree you'd have to de-pixarfy humans to look real, Mike is horrifying to just suddenly witness growling over your bed. Like honestly, would you not have a heart attack if a green scaley sharp-toothed spindly limbed thing with one giant veiny eye suddenly screamed over your sleeping body? Would that not obliterate your sense of mental stability knowing something like Mike not only EXISTS, but is capable and driven to invading your private space while you helplessly sleep?

So the reason Randall became a villain was Johnny Worthington, the frat president. After getting humiliated by Sulley at the Scare Games, Johnny got inside Randall's head and twisted him up to be obsessed with glory, which ultimately became a desire for revenge. It's only faintly alluded to in this movie, but it's laid out more explicitly in Monsters at Work, the sequel Disney+ series.

The plot of Monsters University details Mike and Sulley's first meeting, but this created a continuity error from the first film in which Mike tells Sulley that he has been jealous of his looks since the fourth grade. Director Dan Scanlon said he had a dilemma with this line during pre-production, but he believed it was best if Mike and Sulley meet in college because, "we wanted to see their relationship develop when they were adults. And we also felt like college is so much about self-discovery and figuring out who you are." He added, "It felt like the perfect place to do this, but we had that line. So we tried versions where they met young and then we skipped ahead to college. And we knew we didn't want to make Monsters Elementary." Scanlon said during pre-production that, "Pete Docter, the original director, and John Lasseter ... finally said to me, 'it's great that you're honouring that, but you have to do what's right for the story.' So we made a tough decision to just have them be in college and put that line aside." Scanlon also said the line from the first film is, "an old monster expression" and "That's what monsters always say to each other." (Taken from the Pixar wiki)...
