It’s honestly dumb as shit that they banned this episode. Spongebob and Patrick aren’t even portrayed as gay ONE BIT in the show, they don’t kiss, or hug, or show romantic affection, they’re just taking care of a baby clam and adopting (cartoonishly) traditional mother / father roles. And throughout that, it is VERY clear that they still view each other as friends. Patrick even calls Spongebob buddy directly. But hoooly shit, how dare another man act matronly, or GOD FORBID, dress in WOMEN’S CLOTHES? The horror. I understand where it comes from but it’s soooo ridiculous. This is the same crowd that whines about everyone else being too sensitive. This episode’s portrayal of parenthood/marriages was quite tame, progressive, and ahead-of-its-time for a children’s show

Conservatives didn't adopt the 'you're too sensitive' free speech absolutism position until much later on; in the 90s and early 2000s they were very much in favor of speech laws and blasphemy laws, banning video games, movies, etc. It was much more of a moral Christian/religious party. The liberals supported free speech; as they've delved more into progressivism and banning things conservatives adopted a classical liberalism ideology in opposition. Now it seems they're going back to their roots again or at least more factioned. Politics change often. But I agree that this episode isn't even liberal really, it's just two friends playing make believe - if anything it has a conservative leaning because they pushed traditional gender roles. The father working and the mother taking care of the home. I guess the cross-dressing was too much for them tho.@@madduxnagel6935

Nickelodeon missed a golden opportunity to have SpongeBob and Sandy as a married couple. SpongeBob has a job and they could have really done a lot with that with some relatable adult humor that kids could still watch and their parents would enjoy it.
