Chris , I am an fan of your lessons, I watched this video for many times! I learned nothing, the key point now I realized no amateur understand what descending blow is and how to achieve it! I did figured out by myself, it required a lot of swing feels!

Thank you I will be adjusting my swing in approximately 40 minutes as I go for my second weekly game.

@chrisryan, The phrase "aggressive swing" can be disastrous swing thought for mid to high handicappers. Your point is valid, technically. But whenever I think swinging hard, or aggressive, it does crazy stuff for my tempo, hands etc. Perhaps "smooth acceleration" would work better as an image.

Short and sweet. Great advice👍

Great explanation. It's almost a combination of playing a fairway wood and a short iron with these 3 keys. Maybe not quite, but a way to look at it. I always got the height on the long irons, but never got the distance, so this will be something to try!

Hi Chris! Thank you for every video you upload, they are awesome. I have a question about the Long irons. My coach says that Long irons actually strike the ball when they are going up...but if this is correct, the bottom of the arc would end up behind tus ball ...is this correct? Or long irons should have the bottom of the arc after impact?? Thanks in advance)!!!!

I put my 2 iron(Apex PC Ben Hogan) just inside my left heel. If I golf 3 or 4 times a week and have my swing down I’ll get between 250-275 with that iron. If you hit the sweet spot you don’t even know you hit the golf ball. Love those irons so much I can’t get rid of them even though they’re 31 yrs old.

Hey chris great content. Keep up good work. Idea for video i could use one on . Advancing ball from ruff . Or buried lie in sum kinda tallish grass. Due to missed fair way from driver tee shot on like par 5 Was told by caddie amaters shouldnt bother with neithing lower then a 6 . He said just get it back in fairway instead . 3 wood or hybrid or 4 iron 5 iron . Those r longer clubs i use.let me know wut u think.

Subbed! .. What is your opinion on "sweeping" the golf ball with the long irons that some pros teach? Honestly, I agree with your descending blow approach to golf ball. Lee Trevino always said "hit down!"

I success more (i.e. hitting the ball low and far) when I sweeping through with 4 iron.

It's always a descending blow. Even when you "sweep" you're sweeping with the bottom of the arc target side of the ball.

Everything up to a 7 iron is blistered when I hit it. Anything over 7 is low and barely airborne.. I just changed my focus to hit driver and my driving iron so my second shot is below a 7. I think your point about speed may be the issue. When swing hard and fast my swing loses all form.

First do a big drive off the tee find said ball then hit it hard with a 4 iron

A little confused now. Just saw a video regarding the same with Rick Shields and he tells me to clip the ball off the grass instead of hitting down. Who is right then?

Just work with both techniques and see which one seems to compliment your swing... Teachers just give us advice, and then we determine (through our practical experience) what works for us.

4 iron is not a long iron . A 2 is??

5-1 iron I would call long. 6-9 mid

Plus too much distracting clutter in the background. When we watch KZbin now, we (the viewer) expects exceptional production values that mirror commercial tv. Get that right and it’s the way forward. I turned off after two minutes. Great guy, but not a tv personality to watch

Rather inadequate explanation with a poor use of the camera, and zero perspective with the driver and the wedge. There are four major swings in golf: 1) the putter swing, 2) the wedge through seven iron swing, 3) the long iron swing - six through three, and 4) the driver swing. Ryan should have a pair of trousers made with one leg white and the other black, and he should also have a shirt made with one half red and the other white. Splitting the color and hitting against a white background with a grid on it should show the average golfer the subtle differences between a successful wedge shot and a successful long iron shot. If Chris did this with good camera work, the viewer would see that there's a bit of a back tilt with the torso when the long irons are hit - not as much as with the driver, but trending that way.
