One more thing you should have mentioned: If the sound you want to add is a Music, and not just a regular sound effect, you should add a hashtag (#) at the start of the Sound Name path. That way, the sound won't be muffled when going underwater or being hit by explosions, and changing the music volume in the game settings allows you to control it's loudness.

In single player Half Life 2 maps, you can change the SourceEntityName of the ambient_generic to the name of an npc_citizen (and probably npc_alyx, npc_barney etc.) and not only will the ambient_generic emit sound from that npc, but if the audio file is of talking (and it contains the right faceposer files embedded), the npc_citizen will move their mouth according to the speech coming from the ambient_generic. This is really useful!

So the first sound playing whole the time on the map when I hit trigger to play second sound my fps drops to 10 too much lag.. So the problem is when I play second sound using trigger the map lags fps drop to 10, how to fix this ?

I'm trying to make radio sound that is only for terrorist at start of the round. I don't want them to hear where the sound is coming. If i use "play everywhere" the other team hears it too. And i tried to put 1 ambient_sound inside every info_player_terrorist but they still hear the source of sound which (ambient_sound is inside their head but they still hear it coming a little bit on their left or right side).

ambient generic in my level is extremely quiet, even on 10 volume, you have to be standing right next to the entity to hear it at all, im using ambient/nuke/fan_01.wav, is this normal or am i doing something wrong????

I'm having trouble playing normal sounds (like the music from HL2). The music files show up in the sound browser but nothing plays, and only industrial_suspense1, industrial_suspense2, and tv_music work.

Valve Hammer Editor is unable to preview MP3 sound files. They do play normally in-game. Also, if you want to properly add music, and not just any sound effect, add a hashtag (this symbol #) at the start of the "Sound Name" keyvalue. I know that this comment is old, but i always prefer to make sure that an issue is resolved.

you need to see the valve's developer guide on how to loop sounds. They need a .cue file, to tell when the sound must be repeated.

I recommend a program called wavosaur for that. Just open up and select the entire sound in wavosaur, then press "L" to add in a loop cue, save and viola. Only works on .wav files though.

I have a question whenever I make a map for half life two the skybox no matter what shows 4 missing textures and only the top and bottom are the actual skybox, as well as the fact my cubemaps even after I use sv_cheats 1 building_cubemaps 1 buildcubemaps they don't show/generate and the console prints that it all is stored in the bottom texture. I have tried to find the answer, but it seems as if valve does not know that such problems could exist. P.S. It has been this way ever since the 2013 sdk update and it worked before.

I find it through C:/computer/programs(86)/steam/steamapps/common/halflife2/bin/hammer.exe and I run the application from there, using hl2 no episodes ... because I cant afford them yet. and it is any of the generic half life 2 skyboxes. (the ones used in the actual game), in game they look broken after compiling the map and running it in game. is it that the skybox texture is not being written correctly in the .BSB file or that I'm using the wrong configurations? thank you for responding though, it really helps!

Alright the skybox is now shown, however the cubemaps still don't generate/show in game .. do I have do to something else entirely to make the cubemaps show? Anyway, thank you for your help so far, I'm now able to make maps like the old days.
