The two MPPTs and the emergency power are pretty neat. I guess if you have a prolonged outage, and it's sunny out, you can run some extension chords to power slayers :).

Yup that's it! You know I honestly don't really know! I guess just because I have watched a lot of KZbin videos about electronics and I know a lot I can tell what things do just by looking at it. Thank you!

The big blue box film capacitors are probably the DC link isolation capacitors, but I would expect those to be more centrally located on the board. Those capacitors serve as the isolation barrier in transformerless designs like this that keep the PV array isolated from the mains. The way that these work is that the DC electricity from the PV array is pulse width modulated in such a manner that its instantaneous RMS potential is slightly higher than the instantaneous potential of the mains at that moment and so that both are in phase. The electricity from the PV array is then sent through the DC link caps to which the ultrasonic electricity and its myriad harmonics appear as a dead short. The PWM component of the electricity is filtered out on the AC side of the inverter by the big common mode chokes above the AC connections. The auxiliary emergency receptacle seems like a no brainer given that these grid tie systems are useless when the mains quits. This is the first GTI that I have seen to incorporate such a feature. And MPPT is just maximum power point tracking.

randacnam7321 Very good information there! You sure know a lot about these things! It's really amazing how they can do this like that without a transformer. Thank you!

Makerj101 The reason for the transformerless design is because the transformer alone would weigh close to 100lb on its own and cost over half a grand for an inverter this size. At least that is what I come up with when pricing transformers for my inverter design.

Yeah they are! The Sunny Boy grid tie inverters are the only ones that we could find that had that capability and had a high voltage DC input. LOL I guess I could do that! I would need some pretty big slayers to suck up all the power though!

I understand this video is a bit old but I would like to see more info in your descriptions. What kind of AC disconnect is that? For those of us who aren't versed enough in the solar setups.. that could be useful information.
@makerj10110 жыл бұрын
Good question! The DC connect came with the inverter. It is specially designed to bolt onto the inverter for a quick setup. I don't remember if it was extra or not for the disconnect.

Would like to see this thing in action.. :) If you have already done any video on it, please give the link.. Thanks..

Multi Point Power Tracking(MPPT). You sound 18... but how did you learn so much about energy systems like detailing the inverter like you did? That was intense knowing how long it takes to immerse oneself to understand how that all works.

on the PV supply, can you tell me what colors are + and - , I bought a used one without instructions or PV cutoff switch.
greetings, i watched some of your videos, great presentation by the way, which video is showing your battery bank?

Very impressive! I'm new to this channel, so i might have missed it, but what was the cost for this set up? How many kiloWatts are you expecting to produce? and how many panels will it take to produce that many kiloWatts? Can't wait to see your progress!

Thank you! Welcome! I did go over some of the costs in the first video in the series. But not in detail becaue we had not bought every thing yet. I will go over all the costs in a "costs" video that I will make. This is a 3KW system. I have a playlist on my channel of all the solar system videos if you are interested. Very nice project! I'll wait for more video :) keep those coming! and Happy birthday in advance mouahahaha!

Oh. I had not put any voltage in it yet. It is right out of the box. I thought you meant that I could kill the sensitive components from static discharge.

care when touch parts, discharge takes some time!

Where did you get the mid-clamps and end-clamps ?
@makerj1019 жыл бұрын
***** Good question. My dad ordered them somewhere online. Possibly eBay. If not eBay then a solar supplier.

Makerj101 You definitely made a cost effective choice for the rack. I want to implement a similar mount system. Can you please share your part list. Thanks

I did touch the metal cat before I touched the components.

never mind my last question, I just found the answer, I realize grid tied solar systems don't use battery banks.
