Picked up a green 2" 3M roloc bristle disc last year and I'm in love with it. It takes crap, paint, rust, and mill scale off steel easily and several times more quickly than anything I've previously tried.

i just ordered the white and yellow ones to help with cleaning the cyl. head/block mating surface for this 5.3 ls going in my truck. thanks for the informative vid..i needed to see how others were cleaning aluminum like intakes and heads. thumbs up.

So basically what you're telling me is that these bristle discs are the bee's knees? The kitten's mittens? The pig's figs? They also seem to double as a musical instrument of unrivaled, melodious beauty! Thanks for the demo hombre!

I've only used the "sandpaper" and "scotch" pad type ROLOC pads, but just ordered some of these in green and yellow on the recommendation of a fellow mechanic. I find that more air AND the use of a RIGHT ANGLE die grinder make these work a lot better and are easier to control.

Exactly the info I was looking for... couldn't even find the application info on the 3M site... thank you and well done!!!
Been a 3 day project slowly scraping away at my vstars clutch cover, And crank case. every single peice of the gasket is super adheared and will not come off and this is the most stubborn bike I've ever worked on. I normally use gasket remover or acetone and a blade but I have been being very careful as to not ruin mating surface so this is what I need

Thanks. I would love to see which ever one works on a painted steel surface that has gotten quite rusty and requires both rust and paint to be removed before priming and repainting. It is mostly tool cabinets and shelf standards. It is no car but if I go too coarse, I wonder if I will have to follow up with finer brush before i paint and prime. There are also the "scotchbrite" type wheels. How do they compare for service life and speed for paint and rust removal. 3M makes a purple one and Norton's is gold. Neither lists the grit but they look pretty coarse. There are also other grits in the pad style. Both the brushes and the pads also come in wheel style.

I've used the flat pads on my roloc, but never these bristle pads. Have you used the pad? How to they compare to the bristles? I use an angle die grinder for more control, give one a try.

3M also has 25.4 mm width Roloc bristle discs. Would these be useful too? Or would you need more than 20,000 rpm for them to become effective?
@JacobAHull-nx6rx3 жыл бұрын
would a regular die grinder say from lowes or home depot work with the shaft for the bristle disc??
@tahuyaguy5 жыл бұрын
I know he says "grit" in the video (everyone says grit, Ford Motor Co. even says "120 grit"), but the white are "120 grade." I don't know what 120 grade is, you'd have to ask 3M. Ford Workshop Manuals for later model vehicles call specifically for the "3M Roloc...2 inch, white..." bristle brush. Ford cautions that they are the only tool that can be used for cleaning the mating surfaces and old gasket off of things like aluminum front engine covers, i.e., the timing chain covers.

What are the pros/cons of these versus the scotchbrite-type surface conditioning pads on a 2" roloc disc? Which would be better for tile cleanup or cleaning up non-machined aluminum castings?

Yes they do, they contain abrasives. Anywhere a flat surface is needed, like in shown in the video, these shouldn't be used. Otherwise they are great

at what point do you realize what you actually need is a surface decking... that left side is probably a few thou low after all that ape grinding you did... sure your gasket will probably save you for a while but you're ignorantly delaying the inevitably.

Not trying to be a jerk..but you must have been doing something wrong? Maybe not enough air pressure?...a razor blade is my choice only if nothing will fit in a tight spot, and I use a single edge blade with my bare fingers 😤
