I think this stuff will be perfect for my bowling ball swinging into metal contraption

Ah I love stuff like this. Takes me back. Such a shame the world is so obsessed with things that don’t actually exist like social media! The world still needs tape! To tape things that exist together 😀

Hello Bizshop, thanks for your post and well spotted. We used bolts to allow us to swap the panels swiftly between demonstrations. VHB Tapes give a permanent bond which is too strong to allow us to change the panel.

I used to use 3M double sided tape in industry. Used it as work holding of specialist glass lenses and domes like missile heads! Can’t believe how strong the tape was. Used as an alternative to metal clamps!

What if more rivets are used?

The rivets can last a really long time, but how many years can last this 3M outdoor? Hight temperatures (70 degrees), heavy rain, etc. I am really considering this to use to may products but as they are outdoor products I'm wandering if is going to last...

Hi kamaracso 3M have a massive range of VHB Tapes and yes, because a lot of them can withstand extreme outdoor temperatures (5952F can withstand 120 degrees long-term, 150 degrees short-term; GPH can withstand 150 degrees long-term, up to 230 degrees short term i.e. powder-coating). I suggest to contact your local 3M office.

Will the tape withstand the occasional large wave crashing into it if used to attach polycarbonate windows to a fibreglass boat?

Which vhb tape product # was used in this video? I've searched for retailers and came across any different 3m tape models.

So would you recommend 3m tape vs rivets for the gutters and downspouts on my ocean front home in south Florida? High heat, humidity, heavy rain, hurricanes...just curious.

Maybe try doubling or tripling the amount of rivets, or apply small amounts of the tape on the same areas the rivets used to be... :/

Great! Could 3M VHB be used on planes instead of rivets? :)

Maybe it could fix the 737 Max?

Guess the guy bowled a perfect game with the 3M VHB, and Gutter Ball with the Rivets

it just still doesnt sound good to say you taped something together, its almost like its a joke

I used 3m vhb tape to tape solar panels to the roof of my truck. I then used eternabond on top to protect it from rain and the elements. They’ve been up for 4 months and show no signs of wear

Yet VHB can't even mount my weather guards without flying off in rain.

Did you follow the surface preparation instructions (IPA white on surface)? Also, which "VHB" did you use as 3M has a massive range- you need to make sure you buy the one suitable for your substrate you're sticking it to.

Would have been a lot more convincing if they had used the tape to attach the panels to the frames, but you can clearly see they are bolted on. Wonder why?

As a army airframe mechanic for 20 years, I can tell you right now they're not using anywhere near enough rivets. they're setting the rivets up to fail. That's not how you join panels in an aircraft. I'm sure they used a length of tape. The full length of the panels. Let me put those two panels together with a row of solid bucked Rivets with proper rivet spacing. I certainly wouldn't use those cheesy hardware store Pop rivets spaced about 2 to 3 in apart. Of course it's going to fail.
