Very helpful and quite cool honestly. I really like learning how pro collision shops repair things to OEM specs. Really helps when repairing or restoring classic vehicles. You can sometimes upgrade them with better materials and practices. 👍👍 From me.

We have the 3M ID7000045447gun. It seem like we didn't have enough pressure to make the ripple affect at all when moving the regulator. We removed it and just put a fitting direct to gun. That just blew out the cartridge. Does this only work with the newer style 2 part guns. Starting the bead , and now we are stuck finishing it.

Both the old style and new style applicators are capable of achieving the bead appearance and should be used with a regulator installed. Information related to common issues can be avoided by following the Directions for Use in the Technical Data Sheet on our website: go.3M.com/4NU6

Is it possible to powder coat the sealer? (Resistance to powder curing phase 180C degrees in oven for ~40minutes)

@@3MCollision What would have happened if you used the ripple nozzle going vertical? Would it end up sagging or dripping downwards from gravity? If so what if you apply it and have a heat gun ready to try to some what dry and stay in place and then let remaining time air dry

The heavy bodied product does well with vertical applications, just keep the tip down on the panel. Additionally, you can build the bead off of the vehicle and then apply/adhere it to the car. For more info, see our technical data sheet: go.3M.com/4RjI

Does the second layer of seam sealer add any strength, or is it primarily for appearance? I did think that the old technique of cutting the end off a nozzle and clamping it with vice grips seemed at odds with the precision of all your other tools :)

Hello 👋 Thanks for the question. Seam sealer in general does not provide "strength" to the repair other than protecting it by preventing moisture, dirt, corrosion, even air movement. The replication of both the performance and replication of the original look and appearance will bring the vehicle back to its pre-accident crash worthiness.

I’ve been doing body work for some time now, and like most techs, we all try to duplicate the OEM sealer, but why? What’s the point? Insurance companies don’t give a shit how it looks as long as it’s applied and it’s sealed. Also most of this shit is covered by the fascia. Who’s going to see it, so what’s the point? One more thing… that’s a lot of steps, you won’t make any money doing all that, unfortunately this business it’s about speed and moving cars.
