I wouldn't be surprised if some crew sees this and uses it. Thumbed. I was thinking he might be yearning for B52 type steerable main gear. Go watch one of those landing in a significant cross wind. It's really cool, and probably also much heavier and definitely much more costly.

@williamtsmith9668
@williamtsmith9668 Жыл бұрын
Planes get most of their lift from, about, the front 25% of the wings. The curve causes the air to move faster, over the top of the wing, causing lower air pressure above the wing, than below. The low pressure, in the right humidity and temperatures, causes the condensation. The rest of the top of the wing is designed to return the air, back where it was, as efficiently as possible. 😊. 👻☠️🗽💯🙏

Imagine calling a 747 "modern"
@villiamo3861
@villiamo3861 Жыл бұрын
@@demeter1793 Yes, I can not only *imagine* doing that, but actually *do* that. To me, it's modern enough. Is your modern-modern airliner, apart from dropping a couple of engines, really *so* much different & ultra-modern compared to our ancient-modern Jumbos of 50 years ago? If so, how? Are the engines rockets instead of turbofans? The wings producing lift by low pressure under them rather than on top?
@demeter1793
@demeter1793 Жыл бұрын
@@villiamo3861 airplanes are about 120 years old and the 747 is 54 years old. So the invention of (working) airplanes is about twice as long ago as the first flight of the 747, which means yes, it's old. It's not modern. By your logic cars from the 50s are modern because "oh they have wheels and a combustion engine so they're really not that different from modern-modern cars"

According to pilots on the type having flown also other liners including heavies, it was really like a big Cessna 172 to fly. Easier to fly than many airliners. There is a video somewhere on the tube where a 747 instructor makes Cessna 172 instructors fly it with circles to land after a little bit of manual flying. All in a row ! And guess what ? Every instructors land it at the first time and say it's really like a Cessna 172. The height of the flight deck and the latence of the engines response were the biggest differences they noticed but overall it was like a flying club aircraft. It was designed to be flown like this. This era is over. What a beautiful plane !

That 747 takeoff looked terrifying! I’d be very nervous as a passenger in such conditions. Maybe I’m just stupid but since a bad experience I’ve not been into too much wind while in a plane. I also live in the North of Europe where wind can get nasty sometimes. But of course this industry is packed with security regulations…
@csaba5415

@Bercilak de hautdesert Hard to fully ignore when the moment the wheels lift off the entire aircraft leans on one side due to strong side wind when you feel the wing could touch ground. I still know that both the power of the engines and the skills of the pilot should be able to withstand those forces but sometimes I can’t help thoughts flashing in my mind for a second. That’s what makes it so nervewrecking on such occasions. Your tip is a good one and it probably helps to think that way. I used to read about a pilot’s thoughts on turbulence. According to him it is like sitting in a river raft where you just need to feel the waves in your body and kind of go along with the ride to smoothen it out. Ignoring the runway is another practical tip. I suppose when it comes to landing, pilots are trained to make decisions to go around and attempt landing one more time, whereas once already committed, again skills and engine throttle should still be trusted, so that the aircraft wouldn’t simply go tumbling because of a weird angle of wheels and wings :). I’m not super frightened but someone explaining helps.
