Pretty sure protective pads just protects the holder from negative contact effects. Punching Glove on punching moves would probably though because it prevents contact in general.

Another Great Game! Spoilers Stray thoughts: I watched the don's teambuilder and was really worried about some of the sets he brought. The call on the choice scarf florges was a crazy good read. Changing magic cat's set so drastically is really smart. Cool to see vastly different sets on a mon that i didn't think had many unique sets. Same goes for goobdra. Really surprised at how handy gooey came in. Seems to be a good glue guy. Shout out to aimel for bringing literally SD quick attack cinderace in practice, i thought for sure that was going to catch you off guard. The power whip miss is unfortunate and pretty much ended the game, but you're probably a bit in the lead still if he does hit it--the game goes on. Magic cat may have 9 lives, but so far it only needs one. Don't bring moves that can miss against emvee on his evil emvee arc. Just asking for trouble. considering ice beam for a freeze is hilarious at the end.

For additional context on the above comment, it references the tendencies of Chinese online Pokémon players where they kinda evolved as a separate meta to Western players It seemed like they would only EV enough to survive or outspeed very specific expected threats, and then spread the remaining EVs to other stats
